  1. I understand how the small hitch holds the loop of rope to move everything away from you but what does the green ring at the base of vt do? also could you achieve this system by clove hitching the rope to crab on harness instead of the small hitch? does that make sense? I presume this is only worth setting up when you have TIP to work whole tree as a pain to change over right? cheers, Pat
  2. I know what u mean arborholic, have just been using a pantin so far as this is all i have but have been impressed how this performs, supose im just curious to try it with a footloop for long ascents as i imagine you then eliminate the sit back on yer hitch, but like you say its all more gear hung on yer harness. thanks for the other input aswell guys.
  3. What are peoples views on the best kind of ascenders to put above your rw and use with a footloop? have read on here that someone thought there was no need for a handed ascender and just to use a petzl basic or croll, would be good to hear a few opinions as am just looking at purchasing one, is it worth the extra money for a handed, if not which is better the basic or croll?
  4. thanks drew, The blocked cambium saver sounds like a good way to go. was only thinking of choking with carabiner when climbing to reach anchor point for working from to allow quick choice between ddrt or srt. would tie in with blocked cs, bowline or alpine buterfly once reached high TIP.
  5. hi guys, have been reading this thread with interest. I bought a RW last week and have had a bit of a play on it. Just wondering peoples prefered tie in methods. do most people tie off at the base of the tree after putting rope up with throw line? I found this felt less solid than choked off at TIP. was thinking of trying choking it to limb at TIP with alpine buterfly and leaving tail to ground for retrieval, anyone do this? also thinking about if you couldnt easily use throwline for access, would you climb tree in ddrt with carabiner on the end of your rope (could leave RW on line right?). can you choke round a branch with a carabiner or is this bad practice? just trying to get my head round a completely new system to me, never climbed any SRT before, by the way am using HC RW combo. look forward to hearing your comments.
