  1. I like the idea of that, cheers.
  2. Didn't think to but this one off the riko site shows it all,the base plate is smooth with some pretty useless "bumps" to lift the log clear of chips.
  3. Getting fed up with anything but perfectly square ended cord skating off of the base plate of my 12ton Balfor splitter so I'm thinking of adding some welded cross hatch to it or maybe a removable plate with some thin bars or spikes or whatever that might give some wet cord a bit of grip and possibly help level things up a bit. Any thoughts or ideas? Thanks.
  4. Hi, could anybody give me a guide to the value of a hopefully sound oak log for milling, in old money, 10ft long by 28inch quarter girth which I make about 54 hoppus ft , I think thats about 2 cu. metres in new money. Log is fresh felled in the wood alongside a roadway. Thanks.
  5. ? worse than my defender? That's doing about 26 to the gallon, and as we all know turning circle ain't too good either.
  6. Hi All, Thinking about buying an old style L200 to use for log deliveries and in place of my car. I'll be looking for the kingcab/4 work version so as to get a useful size load on. Still planning on keeping my old defender to go deep into the woods with.I know that the Mitsu is generally well thought of but any thoughts on anything to look out for and any years to avoid would be appreciated plus any idea what they cost to keep serviced or can it be done diy. Thanks
  7. Looking for a good way of making small amounts of kindling every now and again. Anybody tried making some sort of contraption to go on a splitter. Any ideas appreciated.Thanks.
  8. Happy New Year All and thanks to SB and everyone for the inspiration. So are we now in the "teenies"?
  9. I'm interested in converting one of my old circular saws to 240 volt and wondered how well the single phase 3hp logging sawbenches like the Riko or Ryetec do. I will mainly be cutting split billets so don't expect it to have to work too hard but how will it compare for cutting speed against a tractor unit? Thanks
  10. Honey Bros- been around forever and still good to deal with .Did a great job at the APF. Just keep an eye on prices though.
  11. Wondering if many of you use the Big Shot catapult and if it is as good as it sounds.Thanks.
  12. I'd like to expand my firewood business next year and was hoping to start offering softwood loads of larch, douglas or scots that I would be able to buy standing at about half the price of standing hardwood.Wondered how many on here are selling it and how much cheaper than hardwood. Thanks
  13. Have to agree with T9 on this one. I used to discard willow, poplar and the like but last year I tried burning some small well dried willow from a pollarding job. It was some of the hottest burning wood that I've used, wouldn't last long though.
  14. Wondered if anyone on here could give me a guide to the price I could sell Berried Holly at, to the trade or retail to log customers.Thought maybe a net bag loosely filled. Thanks
  15. Can anyone recommend a comfortable harness for an oversized and over aged climber who still wants to do the odd bit of harness work. My old Komet harness is becoming very uncomfortable around the lower D rings and is due for replacement.Perhaps it's shrinking!
  16. That's the one. I'm buying in some ash cord so that should be clean but it's coming by forwarder and I'd like to stack it with the rest of my cordwood near a larch plantation. The woods are about 10 miles south of Wimborne, edge of Wareham forest. Thanks for your help.
  17. Can anyone advise on security concerning the current outbreaks of sudden larch death.I have a couple of loads of hardwood coming in from another estate where they may have had an outbreak.Any advice appreciated. Thanks
  18. Just spotted this on youtube and remembered this thread, gotta get one.The splitter's pretty impressive too. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BSSmnGzF3Ik&feature=related]YouTube - fendeuse[/ame]
  19. Can anybody tell me how this relates to trimming of hedges. We have several campsites round here which are situated on working farms, they regularly trim hedges throughout the late spring and summer.I also have to keep hedges trimmed on a private estate to keep the electric fences clear.Thanks.
  20. This time of year we have a serious need of a good thick hedge to screen us from a neighbouring campsite.Thought about using Macrocarpra as it seems to take no notice of the strong salty winds round here.Anybody had any experience of training and maintaining this into a 6ft hedge.Thanks.
  21. Been a Land Rover fan for years and have owned 5 but my 1985 90 with a Disco 200 tdi is starting to cost me on down time.Thinking of buying something more modern but have heard mixed opinions on TD5 reliability. Anyone had problems with head gaskets followed by major breakdowns?Would I be better off searching for a low mileage 300tdi.Thanks.
  22. Yep, best I've seen so far.I'll try one.Thanks.
  23. Hoping someone might be able to give me a link to a video showing how to use the hitch climber.Found set up video but as for technique I seem to be drawing a blank.Thanks.
  24. He is sort of right but whatever editing/processing you do to an image you will still have to save in some way otherwise you will have to do them again next time you open the image. This is the way I do it.First thing to do is to COPY (not move) the pics from camera or card to a folder on the mac.Once an image has been chosen (possibly from the photoshop browser) do the resizing or brightening etc then go to file-save as- and save the processed image under another name or prefix in the same folder or save it as the same number in another folder. It's as easy as falling off a log.PM if you want.
  25. Most Mac users will probably be using some version of Adobe photoshop, there are currently several listings on ebay for photoshop elements, you should be able to pick one of these up for just a couple of quid. Not sure what you mean by "non destructive" but just save the photoshop processed version as something else or in another folder and your original version will then remain as it was taken. You just need to check that your Mac operating system (OS??) will run the photoshop version in question.Sorry if it all sound complicated. It's not, just my poor explanation.Feel free to ask more questions if you want, I use photoshop all the time, it's the most used and probably the best.Might seem complex at first but it's easier than sharpening a chain!
