lets try and set a date then..

    where to go?

i think it must be central to all who want to go,to make a journey fair.

there must be a cafe in the area.

    pref a dry weekend day.

any thoughts,i remember you tim were interested in the last one:thumbup:

  4. Hi Martyn how are you, it's been a while since we have spoke.

About 10 weeks ago I injured my bicep distal tendon in my right arm, cutting and chucking. When the timber snapped off my arm was straight, it hyper extended my elbow joint and I heared a crunch. The doc said its probably a partial tear, I am waiting for an MRI scan and physio/ultra sound.

I will look forward to a day out with the lads climbing, if I can't climb I will come for breakfast and meet up with the lads.

  5. cracking job some big old stems in there and with the road. but looks a nice job.

looks like there are some good cutters on this site i am still a novice so learning a lot still and its good to see the photo,s.

happy for anyone to pick the bones out of my hedges. the big old one was my first proper hedge i laid on my own. and was in at the deep end. wish i had some more expiarance before i tackled that job. what i know now would have done it different and made my job easy.

keep showing your hedges nice to see

we all have to start some where, when i was up brecon for 6 months,i had never done any hedge laying before,i was just clearing out at 1st for the boys to come behind to do the laying, after a few weeks watching and taking mental notes i was laying my own sections and did enjoy it:thumbup:

like i said in the thread previous,it was only basis work (for doormice)

  6. Cheers Martyn,

Yeah I'm new to this site but there is loads of good info and helpful people on here.

My current background is Therapeutic horticulture - working with learning difficulties and mental health volunteers for a community project.

Prior to that I did 15 years in the fire & rescue service as a rope & technical rescue instructor, working in IRATA and specialist rope rescue tecniques.

Got a CS30 and spent 20 years or so using saws but have done a fair bit of domestic work over the last 2 or 3 years involving climbing and using silkys only. Have been hedgelaying for 12 years too but it's seasonal so me and my partner are thinking of starting up a more 'commercial' side with the trees as well.

Thinking that it would be very beneficial to see how arb work is done properly tho, there seems to be so many excellent techniques and climbing kit about as well as a lot of experienced people in the industry. Would like to go for the 38 and 39 eventually, the rec climb sounds like a good way to find out a bit more so I can make a decision about wether to take them or not.

Sorry, forgot to say I'm near Symonds Yat in the Forest of Dean just by Monmouth.

    Thanks for the welcome,

    All the best, Jamie

there you go jamie, theres a user above, teepeeta who interested perhaps you can travel together:thumbup:

symonds yat knows it well, pass it every day on the way to work (ross on wye)

should be a good day if we ever have a few dry days, needs to be a weekend

  7. are amateurs with limited tree climbing experience welcome??

    Terry

i would think your more than welcome. What a great way to find out a few tips and watch how others climb.

like the bear said your more than welcome:thumbup::thumbup:

not too far from the forest,i work with a few chaps from the forest

  8. I'll be up for that in some perhaps dry weather in the new year. I may have a chap who can help out with a small woodland near Cwmbrân if required.
