  1. I’m sure this thread started out about SawPods, I’ll tell you an honest and on thread reply. As said, £20 is worth it, they last a few years, you instinctively know where your saw is, quick draw and return, the “Pod” certainly helped me become more efficient and organised as a climber, love them [emoji106]

  2. Hi, Although I'm a lot younger than you being 64 [emoji16] I also have suffered most of my adult life from the associated consequences of hard labour, back pain, constant sciatica, carpal tunnel, tennis elbow and all the other aches and pains that come with your muscles trying to tear themselves off your skeleton....and then on top of that I started getting negative effects  from the Ibruprofen I was using { not excessively } to get through most days which scared the shit out of me when read about it.

Anyway, about 4 years ago I discovered this document about a link between inflammation / arthritis and  Boron deficiency causing calcification of soft tissue amongst other things and that unchecked inflammation leads to any condition becoming chronic as time goes by, tennis elbow being a classic case.

Now I know that the word " conspiracy " in the title of this paper  and the fact that it's a fairly long read will put many folk off, not to mention that everything that conventional medicine has to say on the subject is entirely negative even though there's a whole raft of folk out there who anecdotally share the details of how they've been helped by Sodium Borate.

Personally I'd not try to persuade anyone to take anything that your GP may tell you is a poison and all the medical websites warn of danger...

Even although I had the stuff as a fungicide for treating freshly milled timber It still took me a year and a half of swithering before I decided to try treating myself and my old dog.... never looked back !

Two and a half years down the line the subtle healing continues, more than 2 years since a single pain killer and able to work like a younger man without being crippled for days after, I simply no longer have any pain anywhere......and the dog plays like a pup at 14, it also sorted her back end problems.

I imagine I'll get pelters for this but who gives a feck, all the best.

Cheers for the link, I’ve read it, it makes sense and have ordered some Borax to trial. I have stopped climbing and groundwork because of arthritis in my wrists and shoulder pains, not to mention two knee ops and tennis elbow. I’ve since totally changed careers but will give borax a go and see what happens.

    Thanks

  3. I’d take the dead out now and start pruning out live in the centre of the tree, apples need good air flow, cut back 1/3 of outer branches, unless already laden with fruit, and reduce again next year if required.
Check the variety though, eating/cooking. [emoji1303]

It is tough you’re best friend going, remember all the fun times, the love and experiences you had and realise what joy (and sometime frustration ) your mate gave you, smile and bless them.
    All the best [emoji172]

  5. Hey,
I’d start double rope until you are confident at climbing and then move to SRT, it’s quite/very different to two lines of rope.
Buy individual not just a “kit”, I personally used Petzl Sequoia but didn’t really hang around in the tree, Tachyon rope is good and DMM karabiners and hitch climber. [emoji111]️

  6. Hi, I saw this today, loads of fras and wood at the base of an urban oak tree, I had a look in the hole and couldn’t really make anything out, then I noticed a bee entering a hole near the site on the same tree, I’m guessing it’s a bee nest, some nice Ganoderma too. 7. Ive been climbing at least 17 years and had couple of WTF moments, a few slips, branches give way on me and groundies generally not appreciating how amazing I am at my job, haha, but always looked forward to my next climb, the total exposure of some jobs would get me though, it’s natural, as stated experience will see you through, trust your ropes, anchor point and your choice of kit, don’t feel pressured by anyone and as Stephen said come down if your not feeling it, no shame [emoji106]

  8. The Bone will work both SRT and on a doubled rope also. The termination of the doubled rope goes back to the bridge with the doubled rope. There is a picture made by Shem Kendrick on Facebook entitled "Compact Bulldog Bone" which shows his Hydra swivel keeping a bit of separation between both legs at the bridge, which helps. The same can be accomplished with a Rook swivel at the bridge.

The Bone can also be made to be self tending on a doubled rope for ascent, with the addition of a prussic to hold the Bone on the standing side of the doubled rope.

Cheers bro, I'll get the "paperwork" sorted.

  9. Each and every one of us is the best, lol, I guess we all have our own technique, style and speed, you don't have to be fast around a tree to be a good climber. I love the simplicity of SRT, it suits me, the footage of the guy with a couple of ropes and everything else looks a bit over complicated to me, reminds me of double rope, too much gear, in the footage he almost gets some kit jammed in a crotch until it's forcefully yanked out, imagine an off day when things don't go smoothly? Each to their own😉

Now to the more serious stuff, the soundtrack , it's Daft Punk ( who wear helmets with mirrored visors as part of their persona/ image) from their 1997 album Homework, the track is called Rollin' & Scratchin', so the kids have probably moved on to SkrillX and beyond, lol, personally I love it and was in my 20's when it was released, killer tune! ✌🏻️
