Guys I have in my garden an ornamental cherry tree which is about 20 feet tall and gives great shade on our decking, wife's not keen on it though and says it's on it's way out, it's about 20 rs old, so we're told. I want to replace it with something else that will grow quickly and give the same amount of shade and roughly be the same hiigght, the new tree will be planted about 18-20 feet from the house,any suggestions? a nut or fruit tree might be nice.

I have noticed that what I think are lime trees have been cut which have grown under a electricity pylon, not that that matters, how does lime burn, is it worth going and rounding those nice fat ish logs up?? and if so how long do they need to season for?? Cheers guys

Mate sad to hear about that, it's normally travellers who go for scrap metal and they go into adjoining counties to do it as well so it's worth asking Thames Valley Police to liaise with surrounding forces, as for the reg number they can search the police national computer for white trannies with the last 3 digits you managed to record. I know my local force have a dedticated team, well one officer actually who look at metal thefts, if you're close to Northants drop me a line and I'll ask them if they have any simular offences and vehicles.

Can I just say being a complete novice and starting out with an interest in this industry and reading this forum to try and gain some experience and knowledge of what's what I would tend to go for the firewood side of things. If I had the space, equipment and supply I would er towards supplying firewood as I think it's a source that will be in demand in the near future. I have no experience in this field of work and am seeing it from an outsider. Just my point of view form someone who at the moment doesn't know what anything about anything, ask me one on crime though and that's a different thing lol

Well,. got the course papers through and it's 2 yrs on a Monday night which'll end up with a L2 arboriculter cert NVQ and guess what?...... I can't do every Monday cos of my shifts. This course doesn't include CS30/31, is it just worth me doing those on a 5 day course, will I be able to get 'simples' grounds man work on the odd occation, does anyone know?

Hi all Im new to all of this tree stuff, although have gained an interest in it over the last months and am going to do a CS31/2 course in Sept 09 hopefully, Im just waiting for the collage to get back to me with the dates, can't wait am looking forward to it. The only thing is I dunno what I'm going to do with it when I have it, I'll have to sweet talk some farmers do some clearing for them, or do I have to do another course to be able to do that??....lol and try to find some local guys to see if I can gain some experience ..... are there any members from Northants or close by on here? It's all so completely different to my full time job as a police officer, I think that's why I'm so looking forward to it. I think this is a great site as from not knowing anything at all I am picking a few things up as I read, it really interests my wife when I tell her ... NOT!! Anyway, I hope to see you around and if I can give advice on anything in my line of work then please don't be affraid to ask as I may want the favor returned one day.
