  1. I had a alpine magnum untill some thiving git nicked it.

Absolutely cracking machine. Only downside is its quite expensive to buy now, i got it new for aboput 3500 , a yr later it was 4500!

1 man can move it/ put it on the back of the truck no worries.

And it will go anywhere. Anywhere u can walk it can go!

  2. My first ever big job i did for myself once i set up was a beech to fell. It had a really long long drag, and it was a big old tree. it was only when i climbed up the tree that i thought no way this is really badly priced! I actuall got down before i made a single cut, admitted to the client i had got it wrong and apologised for the mistake.

Any way long story cut short, i put on another £700 on top and still got the job( thtas a good indication of how cheap i was) and it turned out ok, though still a damn long drag.

Still get wrong occasionally last sat a leylandi hedge which was a nice half day job turned out 3 fully loaded trucks of chips and 1 full load of logs! halfway though the day i really wanted to go home. and as usual i was soaked through to the bone, damn rain.

  3. I got to be honest i dont see too much in the way of problems with the tree stock. I live about 15 minutes away so i dont go into the town that much but nothing jumps out at me. Though i do tend to try and avoid looking at all the trees when not at work as i feel like am going crazy, like i cant get away for a minute!

I know with the snow a lot of the older cedars have suffered greatly, but i think that has happened most places.

I know they have quite a few london planes along the main routes but these trees always seem to bloom where all others dont! Damn itcy stinkin trees.

  4. reading has its good and bad parts like any town, though tbh i wouldnt want to live there!

problem with cutting down and replanting is the town is something like 50% council/social housing and from great experience these people has a extreme dislike of anything green!!! Anything planted will get ripped up/ or cut down.

without fail 99.9 % of all social/council jobs i do some one will come out and say it should be down to the ground but i always as why and the best they ever come up with is it drops leave. to which i reply they creat oxygen, the stuff we need to live. They then wonder off after that.

But hey i am just a stupid tax payer what would i know :)

  5. i am in wokingham, berks and we stopped doing logs last yr as we found we didnt have the time and space.

Just wondering if there are anybody local how wants some. i have a few friends who can take quite a lot but its always good to spread it out a bit.

Also while i am asking anybody after chipping?

The really good stuff i can get rid of but the greanner stuff like conifer or when the trees are in leaf nobody really want. There is a place near me who sells it to power stations but charges a quite a lots per month.

    ANy taker?

    Cheers

  6. We had one of these untill the pykies relieved me of. What u have to understand is they have limits on the size of stumps they can do, u can do larger (4ft +) one but u eill be there a while its better to save a couple of those up and hire in a bigger machine.

other wise its absolutely brilliant, we took a gamble and bought it without ever seeing it in the flesh. it paid itself off in 6mths.

they were cheaper when we got ours(ABOUT 2YRS ago) delivered for about £3500. Intrest reates and new dealer have pushed the price up.

    .

Also according to to the supplier in the USA the welsh dealer lost the franchise after many complaints for failing to deliver pparts so it was taken over by a new guy.

They will go anyhwere that you can go( except up a tree before some smart a** asks) and are completly usable by 1 man. With a little practice u can knock out stumps so quick, especially if they re small u do them faster than it takes to unload a normal machine.

DONT need and trailer , just chuck it on the back on the chipps!

teeth dont last long but aslong as u price accordingly its not a problem.

Only thing i will say DONT EVER UNDER ANY CERCUMSTANCES BUY A RECONDITIONED. EVER!!!!!

I cant coment but i am going through the courts after buying a recon one.

Once it is settled i will explaine.

If you want to ask anything else just email me.

  7. No i got rid of it the other day after replacing 95%.

Thing was it came with a Massive service history, even a new engine at 60k as it was ex water board or something ( i am trying to blank out the memories) as money was obviously not an object. even the horn broke. And everybody says the bits are cheap, i asked a Landrover Secalist to fix a simple rear axle oil seal as it was leaking( where the drive shaft joins ( salisbury axle ??)) and he said he only did range rovers! ponce. Thats the guy in winkfield, berks. Bought a rubber gromet to go on the brake master server from LR cos nobdy around my way did it- £8. Even the parts man was shocked!

I went through about 5 different mechanics trying to find one that knew how to actually work on one ( not just plug into a ecu).

I will never repeat the mistake of buying such a over rated unreliable outdated peice of junk.

And my old boss has had one too(LWBdefender) which was crap too. heater didnt work, had more water inside than when i go scuba diving, towed a preadator 28 like it was towing the titanic.Maybe it was just us but we should have bought shares in Kwic fit, damn innertubes. Why cant LR move on with the time and get tubeless?

The best thing about it was the alarm! oh wait that was not made by landrover.

My brother had a shogun, pi**ed all over the LR. Comfort, towing reliability. In fact the only bad thing about it is the fact that Pykies use it. Why cos they work well and dont break!

When u last see one of them drive a LR? They maybe assh*** but they know a decent vehicle from a piece of junk

  8. Am i the only one who thinks they are a overrated pile of dog p**!

Mine did nothing but break, every damn month of the yr!

Hell it keep my tax bill down to next to nothing cos evertime i looked like i might make a little profit it would go and break itself!

I joke u not it was 95% new by the time i got rid of it! For nearly 2 yrs i would say there cant be much left to go wrong! Even the engine needed a new head gasket at 60K

    Utter junk!

(although look the part for a tree surgeon )

  9. wow so many replies!

I think i may just give them a go, nothing ventured ...

And at £200 + i may just get so sort of polish too :)

    Cheers all

PS where is the cheapest place to get some hiax top jobies?

  10. I know this is a really sad boring post but i am curious are the really expensive boots worth it?

For years i used to use the basic sthil boots, my last few pairs have been hiax blue ridge jobies.

Now how much didference is there between the ones that cost £139 ( sure they were much cheaper last yr!) and the top of the range hiax ones which are £220!

Thats a lot of money difference, is there much in it?

I climbe and work the ground (joys of being the boss and bod in one).

    Any veiws welcomed

  11. not to get on a rant but at the same time my kit got nicked a company round the corner had a massive massy furgersen ( however its spelt) and a giant custom made chipper stolen. He recconed it was worth in the region of £250 k. he knew within a the hr of it being nicked, and could follow the tracks in the morning dew for quite a way. Called the police and explained that this large setup would be really hard to hide and a helicopter would find it in minutes but was told that there was nothing they could do and not to worry as he had insurance.

The chipper has a 6 mth build time on it.

    lucky he got it back.

Basically as long as nobody it hurt then its not worth their time but if u went to a post office and held it up they would give u 10 yrs! go figure!

  12. I have a 05 LDV crewcab tipper 35k on the clock.

My problem is that the powersteering works sometimes then will completely not work the next.

Also sometimes as you go round a roundabout as i am turning its ok, then feels like i am getting resistance, which if i add more elbow grease alomost feels like i brake through and then the resistance goes away.

    anybody got any ideads?

I cant see any leaks and the level is good.

    Cheers

  13. We used to have to go off road ( only about 100m) to dispose of our rubbish. In the winter only 2 things can hack it, a landy or a tractor!

But now a chap 2 mins round the corner will take as much chip and logs for free so i really have no need for the off road capability!

that and as its not a crew cab any more than 2 people is a bit of a squeeze.

To be honest i am not overly bothered if it takes a while, got so much work thay 2 trucks will help.

  15. Just to let u all know that we were robbed 5 weeks ago, well thursday night they came back again.

Ripped the steel box that covers the paddlock to our container to peices!

Laugh was on them though as we moved our kit to a new location! So all the effort and they got jack!

still shows that they wait for you to restock ur kit then come back and take it again.

  16. It turns out the night before they cleared out another tree company just round the corner of £5000 of kit.

And on the same night they did me the also ram raided a local garden centre and cleared out £4500 of their mowers and strimmers!

The owner of the other company said he tracked his kit to a local well known pykye camp but the old bill are not interested.

It makes you wonder whats the point of being honest? I bust my ass daily to pay for this kit, taken me over a year and a half to clear allour bills and they break in and take it and nothing gets done about it.

And all the cops say is its not serious as nobody is hurt. Tell that to my back!

I bet they would change thir tune if they put loads of hours in at work then at the end of the month someone turned around to them and said there is no money so you wont get paid. But dont worry as nobody is hurt.

Bet they would make a stink then!
