  8. yeah done that with oak a few times,but you dont tend to get large diameter timber in cornwall.
  9. quite like chestnut and beech but i can use any hardwood .not to keen on ash as it splits .9 inch diameter upwards but the bigger the better
  10. does any one have any hardwoods for sale in the cornwall/devon area can pick up if necessary.anything considered....cheers

  12. i suppose i was lucky with mine,swapped it for a motor bike.ive heard of rough ones going for about a grand.but two and a half grand should get a tidy one.it was worth getting if only for the timber i can now shift,its paid me back several times over.

  14. just bought in a truck load of hemlock ,getting prety good results with it,carves up a bit like ceader .i find you can carve pretty much any wood with a chainsaw but i tend to avoid the really pithy stuff.
  15. the springer looks great ,and the fairy,i reckon human faces are the hardest to carve
  16. cheers,never met vagz but ive seen his work at glastonbury festival ,i dont usually sand things that much but when its yew the results are worth it...
  17. most of the carvings in the photos are sold now but i will make stuff to order,if you want ill p.m you some prices.
  18. i agree with you ,i used to have an mot exempt army lorry, brake pipe burst going down a hill in cornwall and i had to use the hedge as a break ,even if my vehicle was mot exempt these days id still take it for one.
  19. does any one have any experience reregistering a vehicle in the agricultural tax class .i spoke to dvla and it sounds pretty straight forward ,just wondered what criteria you have to meet and what problems or pitfalls there are .
  20. cheers Dan im glad you like the bedford it used to have a box on the back so i got rid of it and put a hiab on ,makes it more usefull.never had a problem with road side selling occasionally i encounter excited efficious types ,the dog likes to bark at them and then they go away.
  21. love the competition piece .i checked out youre website, brilliant work.you must do well in these competitions.
  22. heres a few more photos .the dagger was made for 29 commando and went to afgan with them.
  23. i sold the horses head .ive made a few of them in the past generally to order.
