  1. Hi All, hope you're all having a good Christmas, and apologies if this is covered elsewhere.

Just changed van, having had one with a paper tacho, the replacement is new enough to have a digital tacho. So I'm applying for my digital tacho card, all good so far. But do we need to get a company Digi-card? We don't run anything over 3.5 tonne, but use a 3.5 tonne trailer in conjunction with the van and generally only go over the100km limit for halt a dozen jobs a year.

So to summarize obviously the driver needs a card but as we don't have/need an O license do we need to get a company card?

    Thanks in anticipation.

    Ernesto.

Short answer is yes. You will also need a card reader and programme as the digi card only stores data for 28 days then starts to overwrite.

  2. To be honest if its straight and flat £5p/m is expensive. Labour should be 2 - 2.20 a meter depending on the ground / clearing old fence. Then materials similar again, possibly cheaper.

If i was you i wouldnt be putting any UC4 / Softwood posts in the ground, they might come with a 15year guarantee, but thats normally offered by a different company that will just fold if they suddenly have a lot of compensation claims.

Creosote isnt bad, just inconsistent, some batches the creosote has penetrated right to the core, while others only the first few mm. Id be going for Chestnut posts if i were you, and HT wire rather than C. The price difference is marginal in the long run and the HT wire makes a far better fence!

    Where abouts are you?

Nothing wrong with UC4 posts if they are genuine i.e. pine, kiln dried to 28% before treatment and they are a much better bet than Spruce or Fir. The problem with Chestnut is supply!!!

Best post of all is Clipex steel posts, 30 year guarantee.

  3. would any one now a price stock fencing per metre all flat 100 metres on a bit of a banking no probs with tractor . 1000 metres in total must be uc4 15 year guarantee or creosote stakes and strainers c8 80 15 wire and mild steel barb thanks matierals and labour or labour only thanks philip:001_smile:

Materials should be about £2.50/m for UC4 will be more for creo and probably about £2.50 for labour so about £5.00/m.

  4. Having happened across a Husquvarna 3120 at the dealers (ah was there looking a backpack battery blowers btw)

    God in Heaven!

There sure are some thick strong men out there:lol:

Including those who do not realize that radius is 1/2 diameter!:001_rolleyes:

Had one for a few years. Beast of a saw, used it on some very large trees but I ended up selling it as I just didn't see the need to have a saw that size.

  5. It hasn't stopped snowing for hours roads are block mr logs is out helping to clear the roads

You'll have to have Jake's slippers warm for him comming home. It's baltic out:thumbdown:

  6. Catching moles is easy and the scissors traps are cheap, its not exactly a skilled job, why employ someone?

Perhaps not highly skilled but there definately is a technique. Anyone can stick a trap in the ground and perhaps have some degree of success but there are professionals who are skilled at what they do and are good at it. Don't under estimate the humble mole.

  7. Wonder if any Arb talkers are doing it? At least they are doing it properly and proper road management. Amount of people I have upset having traffic lights over the years! 😀

Looks like Frontier Forestry. Not sure if any of their boys are Arbtalkers but good professional company.

  8. Think your right there tom, we used to have a contractor twice a year till we bought our own processor, and he travelled from Dumfries to here 40 mins by car, and I know he ran on red because I let himfill up from our tank as he was running low on one occasion.

How do south west firewood get there machinery about

Unimog or helpcopter as they have past connections with both!!
