  1. This says nothing Billy.

Do you think £108/day is a lot to run a van and chipper?

Fair point, I guess I presume he has some sort of yard to consider and he hasn't stated turnover if you're doing enough work then I can see a van and chipper set up starting to cost a lot to run as it becomes inefficient, I certainly spent a lot more on diesel and repairs before I got set up with my lorry, so yeah if he's quite busy with a fair advertising spend that figure seems alright.

  2. Bigger is invariably better, we have 3 chippers from a 6"TW to a bandit 90 and everyone prefers the bandit hands down the more power to pull and chip and bigger indeed the better saves shedding and wrestling them in. But I think size of the opening is the key thing really stress control cutting in can be tedious but when stuff just won't fit is when it really gets frustrating.

  3. I don't tend to do mates rates, for s good friend I will work for free and they will do the same for me as most of them have useful skills, otherwise it's just going rate....which will be as if it's quoted and travelled to and from as no one else is there at the time so don't need to compete on a "while your here" basis.

  4. The principle of tagging a cheapo bargain on at the end of the day seems simple enough, I guess supermarkets & retail stores do it with short shelf life / end of season stock - but it's never really a bargain rather just a means to shift stock.

I agree with you, price each job on its individual merits.

Any efficiencies that can be achieved by effective (or lucky) scheduling is what transfers to profit in the business.

If a £50 cash job is what the customer expects they can ask down the pub.

    This.

The way I see it Stubby, is if you didn't happen to be ideally situated to do the job on your way home etc then they would need to have someone come and quote and schedule it into a days work somewhere, making it worth the sort of money I quoted above. The fact it can be done in 20 minutes on the way past simply makes it much better for the contractor, the price is still fair. No different IMO to a better equipped outfit doing half a days work for £1000.00 that a lesser firm may have wanted £1200 to spend two days on...just making the best of the circumstances.

Came off an old entec I had. The anti stress did not work but I did not think the box was at fault. The green light comes on when plugged in.

    Any one need one?

Sent from my SM-G900F using Arbtalk mobile app

Hi Mark, my entry is broke at the moment and I suspect it is that box which is at fault, how. Ivy would you want to post it ? Or I can collect if you're near Kent ?

    Thanks, William

  6. The AAAC scheme seems quite scalable from what I've seen reading through the notes, would take a little effort to make sure everything is fully compliant at all times but no real bother and certainly not too costly IMO. If it's too much you can get on CHAS, safe contractor etc for a few hundred to any decent H&S consultant or even spend some time providing the necessary documents yourself.

  7. As already mentioned Windhager are a well respected manufacturer.

Don't like the look of the gunky, black stuff dribbling down in one of the photos... maybe they've been burning wet wood in it?

Certainly most of the extremities inside are coated in tar and resin deposits

  8. Hi I've found this log burning boiler set up on a job, can anyone tell me anything about it ?

The boiler sits next to a big cylinder maybe 7x3. Not sure on age would like to know if it could run heating and hot water
