    In short

outside of 100km you need a taco

i came from kettering and got pulled at birch hanger services which is something 65ks from base.

being honest and knowing if I was dick and caught fibbing I'd only get done on something else I told them, I was going Colchester which is 116 ks

Had I been working at the services or near by I'd be legal, going to Colchester I was not.

Also had digger and trailer impounded and had to pay for Lowloader to remove

    not a great day

Were they concerned about the weight of the digger, I presume it's a bit heavy ?

  2. The question is self defeating there is no good legal set up involving a single 3.5t vehicle and chipper unless you want to tip after cutting down a small apple tree. A chipper and another vehicle with 3.5t trailer is better and legs but a pain the only way is something on an o license be it a lorry or mog.

  3. The voices of sense and experience.

I agree, even my first 201, when they came out was a better saw than the 200 it replaced. As mentioned earlier in the thread there's a few who have had a gene ions bad experience the rest are rose tinted glasses and sheep following what they've read on Facebook etc. Even the fact the 201 goes at least twice as long on a tank of fuel (and it's a much smaller tank) is a huge advantage IMO.

  4. I have Generals on my pick up, it used to have BFGs it isn't with the small saving the BFGs last considerably longer years/ tens of thousands of miles more. Stick with the BFG for better value in the long run

  5. I have had a real good look into this today.

The weight quoted for the kubota in their brochure is not the operating weight, Takeuchi are quoting operating weight, so if you take off the bucket and operator weight from the takeuchi they are pretty much identical weight wise and should go in an Ifor GH1054 without a bucket attached.

Indespension now have a lightweight plant trailer with a 2920kg payload, which I am going to have a look at tomorrow.

I've got the indespension alumax, it's a very good trailer but the rear lights are a bit fragile due to being the widest point and housed in some stupidly thin plate.

  6. This Ian the problem though Matthew I have found 3 or 4 KX161's all around 4000 hours but vary in age by several years and all command similar money. Age doesn't seem to have an impact on value.

I am keen on the Kubota just because of opinion voiced here and elsewhere on the web imply they are good machines.

What about the newer machines? We browsing has shown that a few are having issues with them running flails compared to the older KX161.

Is there nothing comparable to help me broaden my search? The Takeuchi TB250 looks a good machine but again not many used examples around, Eurocomach look good but again used market in the U.K. Is non exsistent.

We run a lot of kit and have no worries that a 5 ton machine will get put to use, although it is a bit of an awkward size as 3ton machines are so good and a 5 ton is not a huge step up.

We have a Fiat Hitachi 21 tonner which is a good machine but kinda wish we had a 14tonner as it's just a bit more flexible yet still man enough.

So I want to make the right choice and have a budget of around £20k preferably with grab included in the £20k

Out 2.3 ton Takeuchi is very tired now and 7000 hours, all of these are just used for tree planting so now looking for something for the tree team.

You wouldn't have to push much more than your budget to be into the new Wacker Neuson 4 and 5 ton machines which are very good in my experience maybe it's a bad time to be buying but the 5 ton market usually seems really cheap second hand, i presume because they're not that big but too big to tow putting a lot of potential buyers off

  7. Are fixed grabs not harder on the rotator? Ie you need a higher capacity rotator if fixed?

It's for a fixed grab or much beefier as they take alot more abuse than a hanging one and the whole set up is dearer on a 3t your looking at £3k as opposed to £1200 but it's worth every penny you can manipulate or pick up anything however you want with the extra dimension the fixed set up gives.

  8. I'm in my second pair. Both cracked at the heel and split right above the plastic where it meets the grey suede. 1st replaced by guarantee. Second pair arbortec not been back in touch.

Me too, going to exchange mine next time in the shop was no trouble last time posted me another pair straight out.

  9. In what way would some not benefit? Higher accountants bill etc? Obv higher outgoings with another wage and company car etc? Owt else?

A lot of sole traders who aren't earning enough to pay or be near higher tax rate wouldn't benefit, as the increased accountancy costs etc would outweigh the saving. But people running as a business VAT reg etc it's pretty much a natural progression and make total sense.

  10. It wouldn't for me, I sub into a few jobs and they sub to me, I do my own books, last thing I need is to be dicking about with cis!

Not much dicking about, would just mean your tax bill would already be paid. So no need to find that lump sum each year. To be fair it sounds like you may be genuinely self employed but you're in the minority.

  11. I would be keen to see the government crack down in all the fake self employed, with something like the CIS scheme for all industry, so everyone but bonafide subbies are taxed at source, would simplify things hugely. The main grief I get when trying to find guys is the myth that they're better off self employed but want to work with us 'all the time'.
