  1. Does anyone have one. I fancy one for the valmet. I wreckon it would be awesome. The dealer up here sent me all the glossy brochures with prices, but never got back to me. I heard the forestery commision wales had one.

  2. there are a lot of 3 man teams not working at all so how will they fare when they need a new chipper

better to cover your costs than cover your chipper

    or is it

I know what it is like to be a busy fool, and run with a major overdraft for years. To run a 3 man team, tracked chipper, transport, fuel, insurance, saws and kit plus all the other direct debits you forget about takes money. If there isnt enough to cover this then what is the point. Something has to give. Our job takes consentration. If you have all the worries of a failing business on your shoulders while playing with chainsaws, thats when accidents happen.

  3. HEY, LOOKING FOR WORK IN TREE SURGERY, IVE WORKED IN THE PAST AS A GROUNDWORKER/CHIPPER OPERATOR FOR A TREE COMPANY AND WANT TO GET BACK INTO IT AS A GROUNDSMAN , FIT AND HEALTHY LIVING IN GLASGOW, f/t p/t temp or perm work considered or if you are a man short and need someone to fill in keep me in mind and let me prove i am up for the job, cheers

Do you have your own transport? How much do you need paid?

  4. Biggest Hiezo chipper on a 3PL is the 6-300, 12" high x 24 wide. after that your into maybe a 8-400..? 14" x 30" machine.

I can get the Dynamic chippers from the US in any format you want, but I would recomend a 500 series machine (22" x 35") in a skid mount, so you can engineer it yourself onto your trailer.

If you want to know if its any good, a few of the guys on here have seen mine working, (ask Buzz / Mat)and I can take you to see one working with 275hp, fills an artic chip truck in under an hour.

Cheers. Are you a dealer?Do you have a web site i could look at. Is there any of these machines working in Scotland, a bit closer to me for a nosy?Much appreciated

  5. What is the going rate for a 3 man team with a tracked chipper with one man climbing the other with arial rescue and one labrour??

Believe it or not but superheros up with us are 350 a day for 3 men and tracked chipper.

A lot of these lads are so far up a certain creak without a paddle they will work just to cover there finance, guess how busy they are? I cant wait till they have to renew all there pumped equipement next year and realise that credit will be a little harder to get.

  6. As far as I know, the 'big' Hiezohack is £70k, so what capacity are you looking at for £25k?

My only reason for asking is I can supply a competative machine at much better prices.

The biggest hiezo that could go on the linkage had an oppening of 24x20 i think. A price had a deal on for a bigger machine on chasis but i dont want to have another trailer on the back, so i am like a choo choo going down the street or getting stuck in a cull de sac. What machine do you have that would suit me.

  7. What capacity do you need, and how much do you want to spend?

I want as big as i can, as light as possible for a reasonable cost. It needs to be drum and big. But realistically around the 25k for the chipper, i can adapt one of my own trailers.

  8. I want to upgrade my chipper so i can crane feed with valmet. I like the hiezo and i think value for money and what it can do looks good. I have only heard good reports and i have a good relationship with ac price. Has anyone mounted one on a trailer behind tractor.

  9. :confused1:Im looking for an old 360 track machine digger. I want to put a timber grab on it then i can move my stock about. Im getting a bit fed up of hand balling 40 plus tons of firewood a week. Me back is starting to not want to bend in a morning!. There used to be loads of them sat in farmers fields doing nowt and now i want one thay have all been scraped! If any one has got one doing nowt and wants to sell it please let me now. Also has anyone made a timber bench to load a firewood processor easy or hard to make?

I have a 3 point linkage set up that has a roofmount fmv crane on it, I built it for crane feeding chipper on mog but it was too heavy and clumbersome, if you have a tractor it would be ideal for shifting timber i use it for collecting dumpy bags of wood and timber on the back of the mog, but since i bought valmet it has sat and done nothing, you could also attach your log processor on it as it has all relevant fixings for big chipper. Save the back. But i would stay clear of old 360's. It could be more hassle than its worth unless you are an ag mechanic as well.

  10. My first saw was a jonsered 2163, I bought it second hand, used it pretty much everyday for thinnings and firewood and it performed pretty faultlessly. Many parts are husky but a few quirky little bits (front handles as mentioned before by someone) and were a little bit "numb" compared to the equivalent husky.

Reliability wise I don't think there's anything in it but handlin wise the Husky just beats it IMO

Personally i would only buy stihll, but second would be husky. The jonsered might be cheaper but it certainly wont last as long. Think about it over the timescale you plan on using the saw.ie 1 year, 5 years and so on. Or who is your supplier, if you are rural and he is the nearest for miles take his advice.

  11. Cat Felcher

If you are slicing big stuff after a storm cant beat an 88, Plan on doing any sectioning buy a 66. I had an 88 on a harness for 3 hours once, i still get niggles from that day 9 years ago. Had a go of a 66 last year up a tree, excellent just like a 46. Do what i do, have a saw for every ocassion. Big saw for big stuff and no smaller than a 26. Top handles are for keyrings.

  12. When faced with the problem of filling net bags with logs, decided against buying a log bagging device from Fuelwood at over £200 :scared1:

Instead, made a few of these out of an old sheet of aluminium. Simply pull on the bag, stand on the ground, fill with logs, draw out device and tie-off bag.

    Effective and simple (and cheap)

Where do you get your net bags? I see lots advertised but would rather get recomendation.

  13. well chuffed with mine, when my kwik chip got nicked i got offered a 2002 9" chip master, 55hp greenmech, a lot knocked it but there was nowt around so i took the it and am glad i did. A local firm near me have run tracked greenmechs for 8 years and swear by them. would have another 1 with out a doubt :001_smile:

Never used one one but i know some railway boys and they prefer greenmech to shiesling. They cant fault it, and those boys like a moan.

  14. Thanks for the mixed bag of comments guys. I appreciate it. It clearly seems like a TOUCHY subject to some and there will be many people like me who want to understand the ins and outs of business insurance ( they dont teach us that in general certs or even things like the RFS ).

Any way I imagen most of you out there have done a job at some point or another without relevant insurance. But hopefully I will have something sorted soon.

    Merry christmas :001_tongue:

Why did you even bother doing your tickets if you arent going to get insurance. Look at it this way. If an un insured driver smashed into your car or family would that be ok?

It was the first thing i did. I passed the work i got onto the local contractor and he gave me work until i was up and running. We have worked in the same town for ten years and get on great. Start as you mean to go on.

  15. I am 30 miles sw of Glasgow and took down my first infected chestnut 5 years ago and have done at least 20 in the area since. I emailed someone down south back then and never heard back. I only see the FBT mag here or there and have just discovered this forum. Whenever i read about it, it seems there is an idea it is still only effecting trees down south. Am i wrong and missinformed. Hopefully, because i am seeing more and more dying off. Who do i contact?

  16. I usually just give it a good wash out and store in a dry place, The only problem i have ever had was the wrong thickness of wire rope and it kinked. It cost me about 30 pounds to get repaired and a second hand wire was 50 pounds with shackle. worth there weight in gold. Mine is a 5 tonner. The guy from the company tried to buy it off me because he said the new ones a soft. I know 2 guys that bought new ones and both are broke and cant be repaired because they are cast. They werent actual turfers. You have one a watch my friend.

  17. I run a 8950 with 8m roofmount, reverse drive, 50kbox and electrohydraulic controls. I was going to buy a basic with botex. But once i saw this one the difference is night and day. Have a go on both. Speak to your accountant. Big prices might scare you away but there is tax benefits on buying kit. Mine was 45k. But a scrapper will be between 20 and 30. I used to run a 4 man team with the mog for chip and transit for heavy. Now i just run the valmet and sub in labourers. Mechanise as much in as you can that is what i say. It works for me because i work within a 20 mile radious. I take it home in monster trailer than sort it all out at weekends with the heater on. I have just bought a splitter for crane so i can do firewood with ease, as i think that is the future for now. Hope this helps.
