  1. iv just been having abit of a sort out as im running out of bookshelf space and out of interest thought id get some of the older books value only to find some of them are worth between 300 to 500 pounds a piece nearly fell over backward and to think the missus wanted me to stick them on the car boot sale dont feel so guilty about having the day off now. but just goes to show dont get rid off stuff until your sure you know what your getting rid off
  2. havnt seen one in years loads of buzzards round my way though nice to see their number growing for a long time there didnt seem to any in this area or perhaps i was just looking in the wrong places
  3. plant hawthorn and blackthorn next to the paths and let them get a bit overgrown I once saw someone have to carry his dog cause it wouldnt walk through it never saw him again funny that:confused1:
  4. lovely pics where was you working, is that a harris hawk in the last pics
  5. I think with any woodland project that you are really passionate about is to to try and keep the general public out. I know if you are proud of what you are doing its it nice to allow others to enjoy it to, but unfortunatly there are always those who will abuse it. iv had kids wrecking lovely hazels stools to make dens and fires, cord wood dissapearing, badger baiting:sneaky2:,people off roading, many people wont clean up after dogs if no ones looking, and people seem to suddenly lose their ability to read signs when in woodland, have had people start walking up to me through the drop zone when im felling but on the up side theirs no place id rather be even when im not working im there as much as can i feel more at peace there than being at home with my feet up on the sofa:001_smile:
  6. thanks and like i said i know it was a stupid thing to and that i know better but this what happens when you look at a job and think its a piece cake, you let your guard down

  9. hope you mend quickly mate I was very lucky if i had landed anywhere else it would of been on ancient hazel stools that are breaking out I have no doubt they would of run me through on the way down
  10. I know there is no defense for my actions after all the stay safe posts on here looking back pure stupidity and feel very lucky to still be here Ill paint the picture for you i was working in lovely woodland, sun shining, birds singing easy work what could possibly go wrong well ill tell you all i had to do was move from a standing pole about 15ft high in to the next tree about 4ft away nice bit to land on where a large limb had been removed in the past and plenty to grab hold of so I didnt worry about staying tied in, yes i know very stupid. anyway as i hop across the tail of my lanyard snags on something and pulls me backwards and that it I was going down ended up in crumpled heap on a pile of cord wood with a busted helmet a very badly sprained wrist and a pencil size piece of wood sticking out of my side I am embaressed to post this cause i do know better but if it makes someone else think twice before doing something equally stupid then it worth the it THE MORAL OF THIS STORY IS BEING COMPLACENT KILLS

  15. feel for you mate cant think of many things worse than that. hope you dont mind me asking but did you know it happened because you saw it or because you felt it. Im just a little worried that it could of happened without me noticing i mean when your working you dont really pay much attention to little pains like splinters and grazes or am i just being abit paranoid
  16. As we seem to be having a few stay safe threads recently just thought id have little rant about a job i did the other day. I was working at a property that backed on to a large park in ipswich, and was working at the rear of the garden near the park. The ground had a deep covering of fallen leaves, and i was kneeling down to refuel when i noticed a hyperdermic needle sticking up right beside my knee i felt sick and we cleared the leaves we realized they were everywhere. although i hope the junkies that chucked them there burn in hell im even more narked off with the property owner cause when i told about the needles he turned round and said he knew they there Was not impressed anyway thats the end off my rant but hopefully by posting this it may remind others to expect the unexpected and stay safe
