  1. Your LA tree officer wants a quiet life. He wants contractors that will shine and show him in a good light to his superiors and elected officers. Provide that and you are half way there. You are going to need to show competence in your work and a documentary audit trail. You could start with a covering letter requesting consideration for council contracts and include supporting documents Your documents should include Insurance Copy of generic risk assessment documentation Copy of generic method statement Copy of health and safety policy Current LOLER inspection Waste transfer licence Goods vehicle operators licence (if applicable) NPTC competencies Formal qualifications First aid qualifications Details of referees, preferably from similar successfully completed contracts. Follow up the letter with a phone call or hand it in personally. Be prepared for an assessment visit to a working job. If you need help with the H&S paperwork you can PM me

    Stihl four mix

  3. There are 2 things to consider in selecting a compressor, pressure and free air delivery (FAD) Most reciprocating (piston) machines will run up to about 150 PSI which is plenty for blowing out filters, inflating tyres and the like. The air delivery part is where most of your cheap machines fall on their face. They struggle to run impact wrenches, random orbital sanders and the like. The size of the receiver will give a little more endurance on higher demanding kit but the refill time is longer so you spend a lot of time waiting. The daddy of compressors is the “hydrovane” type. They are quiet, real quiet. I can have a normal conversation next to mine while it’s grafting hard. For a small treework shop you can get away with an 60/80l receiver with the biggest FAD you can affod.
