  1. I'm approaching 4000 likes this month, but don't really need arborists. Just redwoods enthusiasts. Used to have a landscape and tree FB page but dropped it after repeats and referrals started picking up steam. ....
  2. Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park. One of many unique coast redwoods.
  3. The base diameter alone should mean nothing in itself since taper of trees varies. Guessing won't matter if you don't have a measurement. At least Height, base diameter and the diameter near mid-height and top of your log. You could use one of those conical frustum calculators online that does the volume math automatically, then multiply cubic feet by wood weight per cubic ft. ...
  4. Ordered a 16 inch x 32 inch print on canvas of this one. Cropped from larger image to give a portrait look to it. The copy arrived today and it looks wickedly good.
  5. Why Block the IP address ? They can unplug their router for 5 minutes and reset to a new IP address. ...
  6. There are so many redwoods and tall trees here on the west coast, that you might find general arboriculture as interesting as specializing in coast redwoods. For just coast redwood work like research, the niche is so tiny, its not realistic to get into that.
  7. Another from Stout Grove ... trunks rise out of sight ...

    Giants usa

Muir Woods still has trees that are probably taller than anything in your country and every other around you. But if this helps convey the greatness of Avenue of the Giants ... Muir Woods reaches around 260 ft. max ... the tallest redwood wherever it happens to be in the park. Avenue of the Giants has plenty 300 ft and taller, maxing-out close to 370 ft. at it's peak point. All that goes hand-in-hand with size too. ...
  9. Holly ... Asian & German mix ...
  10. The father of one (not posted yet) seemed to be rather photogenic guy ...

Exactly. Something like Muir Woods near San Fran, would be a huge compromise compared the league of forest up near Avenue of the Giants. Maybe just a few hour drive and worth it. You been following the other thread? http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/general-chat/82592-giant-coast-redwoods-must-see-2015-a.html Muir Woods is also much more a touristy area than Avenue of the Giants, especially this time of year.
  12. Over head in Stout Grove, fused trunks. On days when the sun does shine, there is a nice morning glow in this grove.
  13. This gal had a pretty good attitude ...
  14. Couple others, the blonde was photographed at the redwoods by he river at Jedediah Smith park. The brunette among vine maple trees locally in Oregon
  15. Revived an older portrait that predates when I first started this thread.
  16. This woman is the daughter, a bikini competitor and fitness trainer whom I photographed in the Rogue River a few months ago. Here, sort of a "western" theme outfit. Someone else asked if I could photograph their family among redwoods ... so that sometime in March on my next trip.
  17. 99% of the images I post in the redwood topics are usually redwood coast ... but here is an interjection of two portraits that were done en-route to the Coast Redwoods a few weeks ago. In Wolf Creek, Oregon, near Grants Pass, about 1.5 hours away. This is the father of the woman in the next post. He helped move lights for me and also does photography. One of my favorite men photos taken so far.
  18. If anybody makes it over to Jedediah Smith Redwoods ... if you choose Curly Redwood Lodge nearby, this 16 inch x 48 inch print on canvas of Stout Grove should be in the lobby after mid-March ...
  19. Thanks for the video link. Have you folks seen his most recent book? Coast Redwood, Tree of Dreams and Fortune Book Review Link > Coast Redwood Tree of Dreams and Fortune Book Available through Bailey's
  20. Spruce tend to grow better close to the ocean, but there are several places where the redwood forest can be seen from the ocean. The harbor I posted, and various places near there on the water, the upper hills of Jedediah Smith Redwoods and Del Norte Coast Redwoods State Parks are visible. From the ocean, I don't think most people would know which evergreen species they were looking at a couple miles or kilometers distant. But the forest and tops are visible in places. Here is a "Hobbit House" in Prairie Creek redwoods
  21. The harbor near Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park. A two minute walk from the Curly Redwood Lodge where I usually stay.
  22. One more from last year's discoveries ...
  23. Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park
  24. Boy Scout Tree Trail Glad I picked up some red shirts the past couple years. Still use my green embroidered company shirts sometimes.
  25. The photo I put in the OP doesn't seem to load after I adjusted captions, etc., in the source album ... so here is a repeat of the Coast Redwood that appeared in post #1 ... BTW ... the trunk partially covered with needles, extends to the far left bottom corner of the image.
