do you let something like that season before you get going?? season in the length or???
Usually season the lump, the lump it came from was about three years old. I carved it out with the chainsaw then left it for a while before sanding. Yew seems to be quite a stable timber.

Beautiful finish to that wood -I could stare at that like some people watch a sunset!... When you say mini grinder does that mean a small angle grinder or a dremel type tool? And what sort of attachments do you stick on it?
Cheers TMJ, firstly i use a standard 113mm grinder with sanding discs through various grades, the mini grinder is an arbortec mini grinder attachment, good for tight spaces you can carve and sand with it.

I Use A grinder with a flat lay sanding disc ,followed by a mini random orbiyal sander down to 320 grit.It ca save a lot of time
The bowl looks a stunner though
Thanks slackbladder, i need to get a random orbital sander. ive had some nasty blisters from hand sanding stuff

Thanks David, The hand sanding took about a day and a half the abstract form is what made it so time consuming, the whole thing is silky smooth, finished in danish oil.

Roughed out with chainsaw, then mini grinder. Sanded with grinder then ages by hand.
