  1. HI Mick,

nice one for that, gave them a ring and they were over £100 cheaper than the others so happy days for the client on that. Very wet today so went off pricing and jet washed the truck as it was becoming caked in mud from previous few weeks off road work.

Nice boat by the way, where have you got that? Conyer?

  2. Having joined the club 4 months ago I must say you will find it harder to get out the door in the mornings when your beautiful daughter is smiling and responding to the love you give her.

Enjoy this precious time and congratulations to you, your wife and welcome to the world Olivia.

  3. Hi Guys,

Havn't been on for a couple of days very busy working and quoting. Anyway an update is 1. Thanks Phil for the consultants number. The client is up for spending some money on a proper report with a view to appeal the TPO and replace with a suitable specimen. Initially we will be having a meet with the TO and try to avoid this and hope common sense prevails through the DDD avenue. If not then the consultant can come in.

The 15% reduction that was granted had a condition that no additional pruning could be done on the tree for 5 YEARS! so beggars belief given the tree species to do it at all.

Thanks for the input and will keep this posted with any more info as and when I get it.

  4. Morning,

The TO in question is an approachable guy who normally is very reasonable, will speak to the client and get another meeting with him, as minch said the consultancy route plus cost of dismantling together would be an OUCH moment for the client. I will suggest a replant of a slow grower ie. oak, yew. will keep posted and thanks Gmann for the POV from a tree officer.

  5. Hi All,

Got a call to come and look at this lovely mature sycamore, the client lives in a conservation area and applied themselves to remove the tree. The village they live in is renowned for busy bodies and so the tree officer was called in who quickly slapped a TPO on the tree etc etc. They were then only granted a 15% reduction by the council which on the species seems to me a bit pointless, fair enough if on an oak or beech. Anyway, there usual guy has disappeared after quoting for the work so they got in touch for a quote for said reduction of 15%. Upon inspection I found the below old FB's and also the bark is coming off quite badly, can you ID the fungi, is it sooty bark disease? so I have suggested that we take advice which is why I am posting this and if necessary remove under DDD tree or at the very least appeal for a 30% reduction. They had this reduced 2 years ago, so from their point of view it is an expense for them to maintain especially as only such a small amount of crown reduction is granted. The crown looks healthy enough although there is substantial deadwood in there.

As always your views are welcomed, many thanks in advance.

  6. All this was Alder from a job I did for a client last year. All came from old windbreaks, was a cracking job and has left him and his family with a good stack. I did offer to purchase loads off him but he wanted it all. It is excellent firewood and as I think Mr Ed said it was used to make gunpowder in the old days, if you come across old woods near powder mills chances are there will be loads of Alder.
