  1. Exactly, the way I was bought up £800 is an awful lot of money and not something I'm prepared to lose, I did email him twice saying I'd rather not have PayPal.
  2. Whatever mate, if he'd had "collected in person" as it said or hadn't bidded because he couldn't, there wouldn't of been a problem.
  3. Possibly so but I'd rather he be pissed off than me spend the next month or so worrying incase he claims. I've seen lots of auctions that have stated collection only, and people have asked a question if it was ok to send a courier he could of done the same, and I'd of said no. Simple as that. Like I said before, my only concern is I sell the car, no problems. Quite why I'm "bang out of order" is beyond me, the only person to lose out in all this is me. If anyone has some constructive advice then feel free to post but don't bother posting "bang out of order" or "your out of line" as I'm not interested, anyone would think I've been doing the conning
  4. Have you read my last post? It says that there has to be online proof that the car was shipped/picked up for PayPal in the event of a dispute
  5. So a bit more on google has found out that collection in person and payment via PayPal isnt recommended. This is because of the following scenario, "Some guy sends you an e-mail about collecting the item in person to save on postage fees and you say that's OK. He then hits the Buy Now button and pays for the item with Paypal. You are delighted because you have sold your laptop. Two days later after a few e-mails back and forth to arrange a collection day/time the buyer turns up, tries out the laptop, shakes your hand and then disappears from your life. For about a week. That's when you get an e-mail from Paypal saying that the buyer wants to know where his laptop is? You write back saying that the buyer came to collect the laptop in person but that means nothing to Paypal. You could provide a document signed by the buyer and a solicitor saying that the buyer collected the laptop and it wouldn't mean a thing. All that Paypal are interested in is that you must be able to provide the tracking number from the receipt that you got from the Post office. Without that, Paypal will 100% certainly refund the buyer the money that he paid for the laptop and there is nothing that you can do about it. So then you decide to visit the buyer with a few friends armed with baseball bats and ski masks, ...... but where do you go? You have no idea where the dodgy buyer lives and the eBay ID that he used was probably created just for your laptop with bogus details. Moral of the story .... NEVER accept Paypal for a Cash on Collection deal." That's taken from the eBay guide pages.
  6. Out of interest what do people make of this statement? Now there comes the question of payment. PayPal and collect is dangerous as the seller will not have a delivery receipt if the payment is fraudulent and may well refuse which he is entitled to do. Do not expect to arrive with a cheque and take the goods away, it won’t happen. Sellers need cleared funds before releasing goods.
  7. Let us in on the secret then, the buyers details come up on the confirmation email, I presume there's another way?
  8. I don't agree, collection in person is exactly that, what he is doing is having a "courier" pick it up.
  9. Well I emailed him today apologised and said I wasn't happy with the deal and offered a full refund, then I opened a case to cancel the purchase through eBay. He's rejected it and sent the following Hi, i am disapointed with your manners and i have already contacted ebay to make you an official complaint, also you tried to make me pay you outside paypal regulations note that i also have your emails saved to prove it to ebay about your behaviour The deal stands and i will notify you with instructions from my shipper Joe - brimbo-joe so I replied back and said he hadn't complied with the listing as he wasn't collecting in person. Quite what he thinks is going to happen now I'm not sure! Is he expecting me to say ok and still sell it him? Sounds like he may of been genuine though. Either way he's not getting it.
  10. Yeah I will cheers a quick google for alymed came up with nothing except for the 192 website, seems a little odd to me they have no website etc, The lowest bidder is a guy from Blackpool, he offered me 800 quid for it during the auction but I let it run. Maybe I am being too cautious
  11. Never even noticed that mate, I've emailed him for a number to ring him on, so I'll see if he comes up with one
  12. The thing is you have to,offer PayPal as a payment by eBay rules.
  13. I definitely wil be blocking the, next time. Don't know of it happening but, that's why it's a con(fidence) trick? Though it does seem to be a lot of trouble for 800 quid? I've google mapped the "shipping" agent and it just comes up on an industrial estate, but I can't find anything about the buyers address in Malta it's, manuel camilleri 6,independence square victoria gozo victoria, malta vct 1022 Malta If anyone can help with that, cheers for the advice here guys
  14. Haha I'll remember that
  15. Yep I don't know the ins and outs but if I'd of asked the same question but it had been a bank transfer, I bet most would of said avoid? I emailed him a couple of hours back about who the shipping agent was but no answer yet, maybe it's nighttime there?
  16. What you tryin to say about my classic motor? Haha
  17. Oh good so there's no crime in Malta? I'll go move there then
  18. Yep I've bought stuff from overseas, never bought a car from overseas though, have you? It doesn't matter if he's covered the fees or not does it, if it's a con he'll get them back anyway! You do realise eBay charge for selling right? So as well as the listing fee and the final value fee which is about 45 quid all in, I'm hardly selling stuff for free! Read up on sellers on eBay that have had problems and lost out. Then read up on the bank transfer scam that goes on and you may get an idea why I'm apprehensive about losing my money/car
  19. PayPal do it by putting your account into negative so if I transferred the 800 quid to my bank, the buyer disputed and PayPal refunded my PayPal would be minus 800 so I'd owe PayPal 800 quid, think that's it
  20. Yep there loads on the net about sellers being ripped off. Was just ringing PayPal to see what rights I've got exactly, if they say none, then it's decided!
  21. I'll leave it till Monday and ring PayPal and see what his "shipping agent" has to say. Cheers mike
  22. The point I was trying to make was, say I let the vehicle get picked up by the agent, the vehicle then gets shipped to malta, the buyer then files a dispute with eBay/PayPal etc, says its not as described or whatever, eBay then find in his favour and refund the money, at worst hes got the vehicle and the money and never gets in contact again, at best he's got both money and vehicle and I somehow have to get the vehicle back. If he was picking it up I'd be ok with it. Maybe I'm thinking about it too much
  23. Any advice much appreciated? Last thing I want is for him to somehow claim against me, PayPal refund the money and I lose the vehicle too?
