  1. Thanks Yeah they are very tidy, not concourse but tidy, they are between 40-60 years old and used frequently, we have spent many many hours restoring them and they are run really well and are a pleasure to use. The wooden bodied trailer in the second pic came from my dads friend, a few of you may know called henry gould, the original metal body had completely rotted away, we shotblasted it, primed and painted in fergie grey, the boarding was scaffolding planks, i stained them and fitted with coachbolts. the tipping ram works fine and we saved the trailer from the scrapman.
  2. yeah, our mc connel sawbench is abit of a beast, used it for an hour this morning, the sawbench teaches you respect it and not to rush, you only get one chance with it ! Though when sharp i havnt seen many benches that can match it. Was lovely this morning, sun was shining and it was warm, ran the sawbench for an hour, i was on my own and had to maul myself to connect it up to our david brown, cut some ash, oak and brook elder into smallish logs to go into net bags, got 100 of them in the end to start with from polybags.co.uk
  3. Them screw types are ok but involve more handling. The idea of a ram pushing onto cutting knives appeals to me, not sure yet whether i want one on the 3 point hitch or a trailed one with wheels, something i need to look into. The Mc connel saw is fantastic but with big slabs your handling them 3-4 times, i beleive with a splitter each piece pushes the other lot forward, so you dont have to rehandle and you can incorporate a conveyor etc. am i right?? good conversation though, something which interests me aswell.keep it up
  4. Better picture of our mc connel sawbench This is one of our other saws, its a vinatge circa 1940's ferguson cordwood saw, as the name suggests its only good for cutting lengths of cordwood, still a very good saw though
  5. Thanks Will have a look when i get home, cant view ebay from work, i see there is a tw 3 which is pto driven, i wonder why they dont just run off the hydraulics though, im very interested, we have this mc connell sawbench i know someone who has another one that they are selling, was going to buy it but may invest in a splitter!! whats the ones on ebay like?? anyone got an equivelent one?? are they strong and do they last?? Thanks mark
  6. I like the look of that Timberwolf TW 7, what kind of price are they? not cheap i bet. Its got me thinking, i wonder if my engineer friend could make a similiar device for me with some mods, if i could power the hydarulic ram with one of my tractors i wouldnt need the honda engine or the hydraulic oil resevoir because that would be contained within the tractor, as long as you had the big ram sliding on a bed, and a sharp knife to split the logs and two spool valves on the tractor it should work. Very interesting, do any companies make something simliar to what i have described?? Thanks Mark
  7. The bagged logs i have seen around my way at garages etc leave alot to be desired, somw still green, full of moisture and not many for your money.

  14. loving the pics, forgive my ignorance but i presume that 084 is an older saw ie before the 880, why is their no manual oil button on the new range of stihl saws?? is that because you can adjust the chain oil flow by a screw?? anyone else got any pics of big or different saws?? i love em !! also is there any websites i can look at with big saws and big trees coming down on ??

  18. forgot to mention dvds, is there any good basic climbing ones? i would be very interested in seeing them
  19. I know nothing about climbing but it is something i really want to learn and do, i have ordered the tree climbers companion so im looking forward to reading through that, but in the mean time im looking for stuff on the net to read through, can anyone point me to some good sites with lots of pics and info please. has anyone got any tips for me, im looking to do my cs30 +31 shortly then move onto the climbing ones at a later date, what uk website is the best for climbing gear and what would you reccomend?? many thanks mark
  20. yeah, we are really pleased with the david brown,i thought the back end would come up when we lifted the big piece of ash but it didnt, ive got to get a rad guard for it because if we keep lifting big pieces up like that the bonnet is going to be full of dents with the trunks swinging around. The david b just needs a few more pieces to finish it off, it makes light work of powering our mc connel sawbench and the loader is really powerful so were chuffed with it.
  21. anothe pic there is quite alot more pics on my site, including logging, haymaking etc http://fergusont20.googlepages.com
