Also anyone in the same boat and want to discuss any topics further? The subjects to be tested on are as follows: 1) Plant function, growth and the soil environment 2) Personnel and organisational management + Business, Finance and support 3) Trees and the laws Generally finding 2) a bit slow going Cheers Steve
  3. Hi, Not sure if people on here have visited this web site on fungi on wood. I thought it was very good: https://messiah.edu/Oakes/fungi_on_wood/index.htm Cheers steve
  4. Hi, thanks for the advice....have made a few calls and looking forward to getting involved...will keep you posted...cheers steve
  5. Hi, I have just booked myself on the Arboriculture and Bats: a Guide for Practitioners with the Bat Conservation Trust. I am very keen to move into an area of conservation like this. I am interested in getting involved with surveys and habitat creation/management etc of endangered species, anyone in this field who can give us some pointers? Thanks Steve Ps good article in Essential Arb Mag!
  6. Good post cheers, I like the idea of (I think u call it Halo pruning) reducing the turkey oaks on the south side (I take that’s the back of the lean side) of the sessile oak. Is this to encourage more growth on the other side to regain balance of the tree and also to improve recovery after pruning? Keep them coming, as this is an area in the future I would really like to get into. Cheers Steve

Yeah as above take yourtime and watch for any excess slack in the climbing system..goodluck steve
  8. Yeah it was not me doing the free climbing on the lines!....what were u doing out in Pokhara??....we were only in Pokhara for a few days doing the Vulture conservation work as there were only 4 reported chicks in nests. At the end of the project I spent a week in Pokhara where I did the trek up to ABC and plenty of eating....great place and some great people...cheers steve
  9. Also I just thought, I have put up bird boxes/owl boxes etc in trees for different wildlife organisations so may be worth contacting local ones around you or even LA biodiversity/enviroment departments. Cheers steve
  10. hi, thanks for the interest...its a case of right place right time...i was doing my IRATA training a few years back and met the Research Scientist for the RSPB on the course. His background was working on rock faces in India (as well as an experienced rock climber/mountaineer) to take vulture chicks into captivity, mine was tree and rock/mountain climbing. It kind of went from there. To be honest this work there is little need for more than two trained/experienced Arborists but if anything come up then I will give a head ups. I have heard of the RSPB doing IRATA type work in North Wales putting web cams on Cough nests on sea cliffs with the BMC help and I have been approached about ringing Coughs on sea cliffs in South Wales from the National Trust. The only thing I can think is to write up a CV and covering letter and send it off to such organisations. Cheers Steve
  11. Hi, I have updated my blog with the parahawking pictures if anyone is interested in seeing them. Words cannot describe how good this was. Cheers Steve http://www.slucocq.blogspot.com

  13. yes they still do it... I have worked with Scott who leads the parrahawking work in Pokhara. I am in Pokhara now and he is taking us out flying today! It seems like the perfect ending to this project. Cheers Steve
  14. Hey thanks for the interest, It has been amazing and the last 5 weeks have been a blurr of traveling, trekking, climbing and eating Daal Bhaat. I will write up more on the trip and the climbing side of things when I return. We ended up using a mixture of SRT/DRT, rock and aid climbing technquies to get to the nests as some of the nest where situated on very dead branches 35 to 40 metres up! Thanks Steve Lucocq
  15. Hi, I am still in Nepal after 5 weeks and I have finished my involment with the Asian Vulture Conservation work working with the RSPB. I have been writting a blog with photos of some of the many trees we have been climbing to get to the nests. Also there are links on my blog with more information about the project and the problems. I thought many people on this forum would be interested in the work and I will write a full report and more pictures/videos when I return to the UK. Also I am possibly planning to do a slide show which I will forward details as an when. The trip has been amazing and the most rewarding and challenging thing I have ever done. http://WWW.slucocq.blogspot.com Thanks Steve Lucocq
