As for the unread posts, they are sitting where they should, directly above the right hand banner column

You may have, sorry. You need to download either chrome or firefox, i'd suggest chrome. I would really like to see a screenshot of what you have now though

send me a screenshot please. And of course its different, the old site was horrendous for mobile viewing. Little paper with folded corner displays unread posts in mobile view

all threads go straight to first unread post as default now

I have changed the settings so clicking on any topic automatically takes you to the next unread post. I could increase posts per page but would rather keep page lengths shorter really.
