I dont use top handle a lot so this is from memory nothing more but I pick up a cheap (i heard the groans) ms200t and aprt from minor oil leak all seem ok. But i cant start the saw with brake on it must be off for the brake to start the saw. I presuming this is not right and if so 1 does it need fix and it like to be a clutch related issue?

Clutch springs? Not too big a problem.

You can see if they're broken by looking through the clutch apparatus.

they look ok maybe need a clean and an oil

When you say it won't start, do you mean it turns over the same as when the brake is off?

 

Or does it feel heavier and more difficult to pull so you don't generate enough speed for it to fire?

if the brake on the pull cord feels heavier and you can only get a few inches out and it wont start. brake off and it starts no problem and pull cord comes out without problem

Ok, until someone who really knows what they're talking about comes along......

 

Take off the bar, chain and side cover, like your photo.

 

Start it up, the outer part of the clutch should not turn whilst the saw is idling.

 

Only when you rev it should the clutch "shoes" open (fighting the springs) to turn the outer part which powers the chain.

 

Try that.

it most certainly the clutcth as it moving on idle so prsuming it new spring or would a fully clucth be better

As I thought, maybe the springs (if they are intact) are so worn they are not doing anything.

 

As to what will need replacing I can't answer that I'm afraid, it's no big deal though, if that's all that's wrong with it you've got a good'un.

What happens if you start the saw and then put the chain brake on?

sounds like the clutch is moving but jammed by brake

 

it only clucth and a minor oil leak which i yet to loacte but as the oil gatheringon bottom of saw i presume it aorund there
