Starts, ticks over, touch the throttle and it dies....

Had a bench clean and carb strip, new plug, filters cleaned, just a coil test to do then I'm stumped and thinking a carb kit replacement.

Any other ideas or suggestions much appreciated (except "should have bought Sthil!!)

Changed the carb - no fixxy!

That really just left the coil.... (left 'til the end as the more expensive replacement option)

Had a disk cutter in bits so thought I'd try the coil from that to see if it made any difference...

Looks like that was the problem, coil from disc cutter worked - but is governed so can't be a straight swap out - at least now I can justify paying for a replacement coil.

Refit the original coil and close the gap up to doubled up printer paper and try leaving the kill wires off. See if it works before you splurge the dosh and also make sure you use the same plug that you did when it ran with the exchange coil.

Just trying to save you cash:thumbup:

I had one in a year or two back with exactly the same issue Kevin. It would start easily and tickover for ever, but the moment the throttle was touched it just died.

I tried all the things you did with the same result. Eventually changed the coil and it was perfect.

Its just a bit frustrating since we left the coil to last since the start and tick over pushed us away from thinking it might be coil - plus wanted to fix / replace cheaper parts before going for replacement coil.
