Knowledge of the spread may be useful for determining the use of the species in planting schemes etc. Looks like another species on the 'do not plant' list.

 

It's funny, but all my own literature identifies this as a nursery problem yet this is getting a real grip on some mature trees. More concerning is that the other Sirococcus species also colonies a large range of coniferous trees. That would cause some real problems.

Noticed this disease over in Ireland about a month ago, looked it up online and identified it as cedar needle blight, is that the same thing? Whilst looking at several other jobs I noticed it on trees in different gardens. Then I came over to Uk to visit friends and noticed it on a very fine cedar that I have always admired down in Somerset.

Needle blight is a bit of a generic term in itself, but searching Cedar needle Blight does bring up the cause as Sirococcus. I think someone else on here has also said it's in Ireland. It seems quite widespread, I'm seeing two or three new examples per week.
