have seen this question posted a few times. my understanding, after working for an environment agency employee at there house, is tree chippings/logs are exempt for the waste carriers regulations. try these pages on the EA website

http//www.environment-agency.gov.uk/business/topics/permitting/32328.aspx

http//www.environment-agency.gov.uk/business/topics/permitting/34813.aspx

You have to have a carriers license for all waste but the storage and prouction of tree waste ie logs an chippings comes under an exemption certificate. You still need the carriers license as the envioment agency want to keep tabs on where the waste is going ie not fly tipping

Chipped "virgin timber" and logs ARE NOT waste :001_smile:

I got stopped by the ea today, produced my carriers licence and was told that I needed an exception cert as well! And also all the places I tip my woodchip at (farms, allotments, garden centers etc) all needed to have another licence to receive it. I informed the agent that he may want to join arbtalk and answer us some questions :)

I dont have a waste carriers licence and so far have avoided getting one! :blushing:

Just looked on the environment agencies website and according to their table, tree surgeons dont need a licence for green waste until dec 2013. Is this right or am i missing something????
