Thanks! I was going with foxglove but the id picture in my book seems a bit different to the ones in the tree.

It's the same tree probably. I havnt looked it up. I grew some from seed years ago and the one I have left is in a ten litre pot stunted. It flowered last year and set seed in the cases you showed. The wood is hollow at least on the branches.

Cool. I have never worked on one, this was in the grounds of a large garden we were working in. It did have a funky hole low down on the stem, almost like a wood pecker had made it. But if the branches are hollow then it makes a bit of sence.

The wood is hollow in there sense that it has a large empty pith about the thickness of your little finger.

The timber is light, pale grey-brown, dries very quickly and easily. The Japanese revere it. Interesting stuff, I took one down in my garden years ago and have regretted it ever since. A paulownia in full flower is a magnificent sight.

A very shapely tree. Incredible rate of growth and often coppiced to encourage even bigger leaves.

This is the crummy neglected plant that flowered. The buds sat looking dead for two years. Annual pruning would of stopped it flowering. Second photo is flowerstalk
