Saw blade sharpening

Just wondering what everybody does about getting their band saw blades sharpened.

 

Does anybody use the automatic blade sharpeners sold by Woodland Mills and Norwood or is it better to just send blades off to a saw doctor? I'm contemplating buying the little LM26 from Norwood and just wanted an idea of the cost/hassle of blade maintenance. When I've hired a mill in before I think I was charged around £20 per blade we used.

What sort of kit do you use for sharpening BigJ? Do you think the ones that Norwood and Woodland Mills supply would be up to the job? I wasn't sure wether if you send it to a saw doctor they will do a better job or if they just put the blade on the same machine I could buy for £600..

And when you refer to setting does that mean adjusting the angle of the tooth for hardwoods or softwoods?

the sharpener sold by woodland mills is the grindlux 4000 made by Markusson AB, very easy to use and set up,I havent had any problems with mine,plus it runs on 12v DC, so for me is ideal

What do you do about setting the teeth Agrimog?

barton77, have a good search on you tube, I ended up making my own setting tool, do my own now with no problems, a couple of push clamps, 2 dial gauges, some angle iron, flat plate, and a welder

Are you doing a left and a right tooth every time you move the blade (2 dial gauges) or do you have to turn the blade inside out to set the second side?

aye, left set, neutral, no set, right set, found this works best for me, nice clean cut, and once you get into the way of it, quick to do a band
