Elm Reduction

Point taken. I must have topped plenty of leylandii's in my climbing days!

From my own experience I know all you can do is offer the best advice and hope the client takes it. Nevertheless lets keep pumping that best practice into the public realm. I do honestly think that it is slowly trickling down..

Thankfully I now have a bit of control on such matters... They have to take my advice, wanted or not!

To quota Tony Blair – Education, education, education.

We need to educate the public in quality tree care. In my experience if you know what your talking about and chat to the customer from a trees perspective, i.e. what’s best for the tree (and not best for yourself or your pocket) 9 times out of 10 they will take your money and go for a reduction and not a ‘topping’.

Private trees are often loved by their owners. They may have happy memories associated with them, summers sat under shaded canopy or grand children playing beneath. The last thing the owner will want is some tree work carried out that could jeopardise the trees health and vitality.

But…..

I guess that as long as there is a private tree care industry and punters with spare cash there will always be topping, but at least put up a good constructive argument why NOT to top and give the options – you may be surprised. :001_smile:
