Carpal tunnel

Hi all

 

Has anyone here had carpal tunnel surgery? How long did it take to get back out working? The hospital are saying 2 weeks before using computers, etc, and 6 weeks before doing any physical work, like tree/rock climbing and using saws. Sounds fair, but realistically it's going to take longer than that to build a bit of strength up, right?

 

It's a pain in the backside, as I just passed my CS 38 and want to be getting on with my 39 ticket!

Chap i know had it- tree surgeon- 6 weeks and he was back at it, strength wasnt 100% for a month or so after. That was last winter, hes right as rain now.

Just make sure he keeps up with the exercises they give him!

i had to have a tfcc tear repair in my right wrist very similar type of opp,

 

i was off for the best part of 4 1/2 months, i was unable to do anything for 4 weeks after op and was unable to do anything pisical for 12 weeks,

 

but as i worked for the council they wouldn't let me back till i passed a medical through the work doctor. its been 9 months now and its still not 100% but loads better than before op

 

if you have the op make sure you follow the doctors advise with phisco etc

Buy one of these.

 

Great for rehabilitation and strengthening finger/wrist muscles. They give you popeye forearms after a while! I have one myself.

Had mine done. 1 week no driving, 4 weeks back climbing. Everybody should have a little bit of pain everyday

Had mine done last Christmas

2 weeks no driving, 6 weeks no work

But it was fine after that full strength back after about 8 weeks

Try to get it done just before Christmas when work is quite

Plus side is you can have a Drink and not worry about driving

Got the surgery next week, so hoping to be on the mend by the end of November, give or take. It's come at such a ridiculous time, seeing as I'm just trying to get into the industry. Of course, it'll also bugger me a bit for some of the shooting season.

 

I've had a go on one of those powerballs before, will probably look at getting one if it might help.

Did the docs say what the specific cause of the problem is?

Mesterh, yeah, I broke my scaphoid on a punchbag (real one, not a person...) 10 years ago, and it never properly healed because I was using computers daily for work. Basically, excessive bone growth on the top of my hand, near the wrist, has led to there being too much pressure on the carpal tunnel, and so it's been getting worse. They don't want to chip the bone away because it might "incapacitate my ability to bend my fingers"...!

 

Had it about 6 months now, told them what I thought it was and it still took them that long to figure it out! The hand has taken on a nice claw shape now
