What causes the bar to do this

I'd have to agree with Darrin, damage/wear like that don't happen overnight.

Like others have said, running a slack chain causes 'chain slap' and the nose on that bar has been slapped 100%.

Thanks for the comment, I NEVER Run a slack chain on my NONE carving saws. I was always trained to not have slack in the chain. I actually struggle to run my Echo with Dime Tip on a slack chain.

assuming that this is on the underside and you are using it for carving is that not the point on the bar that gets used the most and most likely gives the most wear?

Thanks, not sure what's caused it as I always flip the bar, clean the saw after every use. Did give the Rollermatic a good clean and oil. Guessing maybe the bearing has gone in the tip as the noise was a seriously screech.

Were you using a Piranha chain?.... I had one hear the bar up the same colour along the edge, but it didn't wear anything like that!!

cheers, steve

Hi Steve, not using Stihl Chain as supplier didn't have usual one in and gave me an alternative. Got me thinking now... Many thanks. I'm gonna check it out in the morning.
