sometimes theres a filter in the top of the lift pump try that

 

Its fuel back draining to the tank when not in use, that's why it happens shortly after the first run, its caused by air in the system that purges after a short time.

 

If it were a filter issue the symptom would persist, as it is the engine starts on what it has in the system between the lift pump and the injectors then sorts itself out as the air purges out via the injectors.

blocked breather in fuel filler cap, when it dies take cap off and listen for a rush of air in bound.
