Just bought an old generator which has an old Ford D6 industrial, it hasn't run for a few years, it starts on the button and sounds great but it's smoking a bit!, I was wondering is there something I could ad to the fuel that would reduce the smoke?

Not if the bores or rings are worn but it may have glazed bores from running with no load for long periods. There are several techniques for glaze busting but running at high load can do it.

 

Also consider the turbo leaking oil and the valve guides.

As above but bear in mind these engines will make your eyes water on a cold start ..they love fuel

These engines have wet cylinder liners with a neoprene O ring to seal it to the block at the bottom. If the engine has been hanging around for a long time it's quite possible that corrosion can occour in the seal/land area allowing water into the sump. I'm not saying this will have happened and these engines are pretty bomb proof generaly but just be alert to it, the condition of the oil should be a good indicator.
