so does that mean the pto needs to run at 1100?

this is the area im going to struggle at as i know nothing on tractors

 

No mate, some of the international tractors have two shaft drives on them, 540 rpm and 1000rpm.

 

The tractor will usually need to run at around 1800-2200 rpm (engine) to achieve this.

 

Usually processors need to run at 540rpm, but by running the processor on the 1000 shaft you can achieve 540rpm on that shaft at around 45% of the engine speed.

Oh, also, to run the machine on a 1000 shaft you will need either an adaptor to the pto shaft on the machine or a non-spec shaft, as the 540 tractor shaft is 7 splined and the 1000 is 21 splined.

i have 2 speeds on mine....ive never tried running on the 1000 but im assuming it would provide less torque?? would this loss of power be transferred into the hydraulics giving less splitting power? apologies if thats a stupid question, my knowledge on such things is limited!

Depends on how big the tractor is steve, if you can change speed on the same shaft and you have enough hyd pressure to operate, its worth giving it a try.

ok i dont really totally understand what you mean...its a 70hp tractor, theres only 1 pto attachment point

if you have plenty of grunt then the tractor can run at lower revs, but still turn the shaft twice as fast as it would be on the 540rpm. i have never worked a processor so dont really know how much power they take, but if you said a 15hp will power it then 70hp should do it on the 1000 speed ok, saves on fuel.

Somehow i'm not really thinkin about firewood when am lookin at that avatar.I believe our 2140 is perfect for runnin 480rpm in 1000 range except its only got 540 not even 540e which would be a slight help.So surely if you've only one shaft like mine you don't need an adapter?
