Loler query

Seems a fair few people are loler inspectors out of interest how do you gain the qualification and will I have to come back to England to do so?

Normally a three day course with a written and practical exam at the end. For the exam there are questions that relate to kit as well as regs such as PUWER, WAH etc. This is followed by 10 items that you have to comment on and pass or fail. If you pass the written aspect but fail the practical then you can just resist the practical at a later date. Very good course

Can I just check a few things without starting a whole new thread?

All PPE needs LOLER? Harness, all ropes etc?

If kit is new does it automatically have a LOLER, which runs out after 6 months? Also, what is the life span of the various parts of PPE?

Does anyone have any guides to LOLER I can look at anywhere on-line?

all PPe and rigging kit needs loler testing, new ppe needs to be tested after 6 months in service and rigging kit after 12months. Kit is can remain in service for as long as it passes loler or untill manufacturer stated lifespan is exceeded, or if no lifespan stated its generally 5 years for textile items and 10 years for metal items

I was aware of the 5 years for textiles (especially harnesses) but not the 10 years for metal kit. Not trying to be contrary, but where did you get that from.??

10 years for metal items is a guide if item is is good condtion it can be in service for longer , petzl now state 10 years for their krabs , thats what we were told on our course. i am half way though my loler inspection test , i need to resit the theory exam again, as i failed that bit but i passed the practical exam.

I did the opposite on mine. Passed the theory and made a safety critical error on the practical. Passed the second time around no problem.

It's remarkable how expiry dates and guidelines change on different items of kit vary from source to source.

All the best with your re-sit 🙂
