Toro stumpgrinder

I've just received this month's copy of Pro-arb and in it theres a section on stump grinders.

 

There is a 38hp tracked offering from Toro which is allegedly £14,500 +VAT.

 

Seems like a lot of machine for the money so.....

Anyone got any experience of these (or the older 26HP version) and what the spares/support is like?

Anyone even seen one on a demo - just seems to be 'very low' price for a 38HP beast.

 

How much of the power is used up by the hydraulic drive over the old 'belt' system?

 

Anyone?..........

It's probably as bad as the Vermeer sc30 just a modified skid steer made into a pointless grinder. Or I could be wrong but a dedicated machine will always be more productive and worthwhile.

Do I assume that is French for 'The price, compared to the competitors prices explains it all'

We hire one of these out from time to time. Capable enough for smaller jobs. The fact that you can have the head sat at 90 degrees is handy working close to fences etc. However if we have a lot to do in a day or more or a big stump to bust out......... no thanks. If I was to buy a machine of this dimensions I would go for a rayco or bandit etc and be happy to pay the extra.

That's just me looking at a picture mind.

I've always been of the opinion that the yanks propensity to over engineer and not worry about weight has meant their grinders are probably the best value.
