Hello there,

I was wondering if anyone could help me with finding a job abroad, any contacts would be brilliant. I am a rookie climber, 1 years experience, and I am looking to gain some more experience abroad. I am 22 years old and climbed for the environment agency and sub contracted to local tree surgeons. Any help would be much appreciated

Thanks

Sam

There's a company in Vienna looking for team leaders, climbers, and second climbers. Damien Smith is the boss. Seems like a sound bloke. Almost took a job out there a few years ago. They supply accommodation, kit etc. they also seem pretty hot on new techniques and gear, so you won't be lumped with a bit of 3 strand and an old weaver saddle.

Hi,

I really don't think your experience makes a difference as to where you are in the world. Every company at one point another is looking for every skill range. For example, I was a chef for 7 years until one day while on a working holiday in Australia I had had enough of it. I applied for a job dragging branches with a very well established arb company in Perth, got the job, did my 6 months then moved onto another company in west Australia and have been in arb ever since. I have now got 3 years experience as a climber having worked in Australia, New Zealand and Norway plus a little bit in the UK.

My advice would be to get out there and make it known that you are there and looking for work. A decent CV goes a long way. The arb world can be small and news soon travels. I had people calling me when I was in New Zealand. Just be honest with every potential employer, don't say you are capable of something your not, and work hard. You will be rewarded.
