Hi guys, ive had to come to the conclusion that im not going to be able to run a truck and a van this year as hoped due to more building prodjects being taken on and funded by myself, so looking at a merc sprinter mwb hi roof with the 313 engine which should have enough power to tow with a bit if needed.

looking at the mwb as it can fit my kubota ride on in it and still have enough room for other kit when needed. so has any one any reviews on these vans and that perticular engine, any known faults to look out for? has any one managed to uprate the towing capacity up from 2000kg?

was also looking at the possibility of changing the rear drive tyres to all terrain but couldnt see any that would fit? any ever done it? from the specs the van sould at least carry 1.2t ish inside do they carry the weight well or would it be on its arse with a ton bag inside?

the one im looking at has about 66,000 miles its a 2010 and just under £8000 plus vat.

Can't speak from experience about a late sprinter but have a 110 hp Vito. Bags of torque goes like the clappers. It's 5 years old now owned it 2 and it has about 90 k on the clock. So far I have put fuel in and 2 wipers. I grilled the local dealer before I bought it and they said they have vertically zero problems with the Cdi engines and the big v6 they have never had a problem. I have had several mercs and never had any real problems apart from occasional prop shaft at 140,000 miles.

When I researched that a few years ago it became pretty evident that only merc would do it and it would be a lot. For sticking a new plate on the van. It will be 3.5t for a mwb iirc if it's uprated towing though which is good.

We've had a 110hp earlier one for many years. Couple of brake issues but mainly due to standing for long periods. We've put over 100k on it since buying it with few problems, bit rusty now but not as bad as our Iveco chassis. All drivers prefer the sprinter to the Iveco even though the Iveco has done less and is almost 10 years newer.
