here's bit of my setup. Major (1955) on new tyres, good for skidding.

dubble drum ingland winch (3000) good for winching to grab. no anchor but high speed, even at tickover! A snatch block indeed essential!

might sell Major if interested (as also got 5t uniforest on JD)

good thing independent rear brakes as pulling wheelies is easiy done.. (cast iron front wheels but no additional weights on front. if too big/heavy just reduce the size of the tree! got two cables so still very swift job. agreed not safest, I operate the clutch from behind iso seat, easier and safer?

Yes but you can over do it and end up with the belhousing giving way

Hi Bennovet. Thanks for sharing pics. That's a nice looking set up. Do you use it for winching trees over, swell as skidding? If so, how does it cope?

 

Would you sell the Major and Winch together? And if so, what sort of money would you be looking for? Feel free to PM me if you prefer. Also, whereabouts are you situated?

We've got couple Igland 4000's with extended drums so can be used for high leading, towers are here too. They're not 3pl but mounted on Ford 3000s and from memory there's only one butt plate. If of interest drop me a note and I'll try get some pictures.

At the risk of sounding like a complete novice... what is the purpose of double drum winches, compared to the seemingly more common single drum variant? Quite a few of you guys seem to use the double drums, and I see a lot of the old County's etc with them on...

Double drums are used mainly in commercial forestry so that can skid multiple quantities of logs at a time.

 

One and a half Ford 3000s, both non runners, two Igland 4000s with extended drums and high lead towers, one Igland butt plate.... sensible offers
