Ms 341 starting issues

i have got the old muffler but this evening I've tried all the above, clutch seems to be moving unobstructed e.t.c. but it still keeps on cutting out after a few seconds. just thought id try taking the new breather out, it runs just fine as it should!! i then put the old one back in and it cuts out again??!! is there anyway the small tube from the fuel tank could be blocked or do you think I've just got a faulty new one? the old one never stopped the saw running when it was fitted before either!

If the breather is suspected then you can test by sucking on it and it should let air in but not out. Remove the pipe and test - it should pass air both ways. Stihl often use small grub screws in their breather tubes and these can get blocked.

 

From the parts list, it looks like the breather is a simple push in one?

yep the breather is just a push in type, just find it odd how it didn't seem to be a problem before and now even the old one is making the saw cut out. from what i can see there is no breather pipe as such, more of a plastic tube incorporated into the top of the fuel tank itself.

Spud, when it comes to mechanics i'm the first to admit i'm useless. I can change a bar and chain, clean an air filter, and at a push change a sprocket and starter cord. but I had a Stihl ms341, brilliant saw that only ever had 1 reoccuring problem. So at the risk of making an idiot of myself...could it be anything to do with the electronic ignition?

Highly unlikely, the electronics usually fail and produce a slight spark at the beginning of the first pull and then nothing.

You can get misfires but with this, the chap has changed parts, it is probably slight drag on the crank taking the idle down.

 

He is only 40mins away so may see him soon!

Well after many attempts myself i decided enough was enough, and most importantly before i seized my saw. So tonight i popped it over to steve (only just over 30 mins away) for a look and hopefully just a tune up. He quickly realised that the impulse line had become separated (my fault when changing anti vibe rubbers i think) after a bit of a run and a little bit of adjusting he the saw was up and running well again, not quite good enough for Steve though so the carb was opened up, cleaned and then with a bit more tinkering with the adjustment screws he was as happy with it as i was! i know he already has a very good reputation on here but i would just like to add my opinion and say how happy i am with his service! I would certainly reccomend his services and would definitely use him for any other problems i encounter!
