I am cutting some over grown hazel at the moment ,and have done on and off for 20 yrs, I store it all stood up under a lean too and then pick at it through out the yr for various craft product, to name a few, reindeer heads/body`s, bird feeders, rustic chair frames, bird houses, turned mushrooms, rustic milled fencing for allotments, now whilst it doesnt last for ever outside like larch or chestnut, it lasts long enough for the purpose it was intended, and at the price I market it at, basically use what you have and experiment! and I do burn some too,

Thanks you both for the suggestions. I am prone to keeping branches and logs that look interesting and might have a use one day. I shall be a bit more organised and keep some of the straighter lengths for future projects and any bits that might be good for turning.

I've been cutting some big hazels in a neighbours land for them. It was wild in there must have been left a long time. There's some bits getting on for 8" diameter. It all goes for firewood and the small stuff is burnt with the brash
