norway maple required please for turning

a couple of bowl blanks would be ok mate but it must be 100% identifiable as norway.

 

 

what sizes did you mill?

All 2" guess it's about 1ft or so wide. I can only identify aa maple but will uncover ut and take a pic for you to identify. How do you tell the difference?

usually with a leaf but if you've left the bark on i may be able to use that.

 

endgrain identification will be the only other way.

all maples have a slightly different endgrain pattern so you should be able to tell them apart.

Just took some pics before I read your reply. No end grain pic but can get one tomorrow. Dug this 2" board out the stack. Been outside covered in tin and a little damp one end bit mostly dry. Havent got round to moving that pile to my new shed yet. Forgot but do have inch boards too.

i just looked up the bark of a norway and it's a dead ringer so i reckon it's a safe bet that they are norway.

i need a sample of this wood as the one eric has used on his website is quite small so i can send him a better sample and turn him a bowl to place on the same page.
