Thank you for the information, that will be a help. I am 71 and the old grey matter finds it hard to take it all in these days. I only want to spray small areas in my woodland.

if you search nptc / city & guilds go to pesticides then Pa6 assessment criteria you can print of a list of all the questions they might ask with the right answers . The practical part is calibrate the knapsack then add water and "chemical " , all using PPE . I thought it would be hard but it pays to shell out for the training .

I agree, I did the course about 4weeks ago passed the pa1 which was easy. I don't have a knapsack sprayer at the moment so have been unable to practice, so just hope I remember the procedure

Whatever you do, do not mess up the calibration or whatever it's called! I was failed on my PA6 the first time I took it, despite getting all the measurements of water and imaginary pesticides correct, I questioned myself a bit and was hesitant and the examiner failed me because he didn't feel I was confident/up to it.

To be blunt I was highly pissed off and didn't agree with his verdict whatsoever, but there we go, it is what it is. I took the test again and passed, not making the same mistake twice.

And when you finish spraying pay attention to the rinsing procedure, don't turn the spa yer upside down and empty contents in a one. It's a pita to spray out 3 tankful ls to clean but must be done

Cleaning the sprayer out is the bit I am not sure about. Where do I tip the washings from the sprayer if there is any over . Do I triple wash the sprayer and then tip it down the drain or spray it on the field

dont tip it down the drain..or you will fail.you are supposed to calculate the size of plot to be sprayed and fill the sprayer with enough water to cover that area.then you need either a approved soak-away or fill the sprayer 3 time and spray contents on a suitable area to dispose of cleanings.up ending the sprayer and dumping all the contents in on spot will fail you.
