[Tree Man Tom]

Anybody able to help ID this? Found at the base of a poplar. Thanks

With that level of desiccation I think it will be hard to provide anything other than a guess at the species.

 

The stems don't look to have any rings.

The gills appear to be brown rather than white.

I can't really tell if the top of the caps had squamules (shaggy scales)

 

When you say base of Poplar, do you mean coming off the roots or the base of the trunk?

It was inside a decay cavity at the base of the tree. Trees coming down anyway just trying to find out what it is out of interest more than anything

looks like desiccated Polyporus, probably last years as it was protected

I thought they looked like they have the remnants of gills rather than pores

Unfortunately, i've lost my best glasses , the ones i am using are a waste of time, and its no good without them, i was more going on size and shape, but like you said very poor specimens, ?

The on site vote on this is Honey fungus , hedging in close proximity is dying, TO has also visited the site and had a scratch around , he also thinks so. ?
