Gleditsias :sneaky2:

It's easier to say what I'm steering clear of, rather that what I am planting, as I try to assess each location individually.

Generally, no more limes (people have to wash their cars, poor lambs...), very few Sorbus', other than "Browers" and "Cardinal Royal" which seem to be pretty bomb proof, and I'm steering clear of most of the apples because of scab, basal cankering and, good grief!, they drop fruit. Though "Street Parade" is looking ok.

Strangely enough, I'm not planting any more Raywood ashes either

I posit that alot of folk wash their cars anyway...mostly on a sunday- they just want something to grumble about!-Seriously tho' I understand your reasoning...

"Gleditsias"

Okay....but they too tend to have a skinny frame and sructure about them, with an overly extending habit ; I certainly dont think of these trees as strong having cut a fair few over the years!- I always enjoyed the thorns too!!

Joshing. I wouldn't stick a Gleditsia in any of my streets. But it's tempting to put a few of the thorned cultivars into some of the sink estates and see if the pit bulls would chew on them!

Hahahaha. Nice touch. Send some down here janey, ill plant them all over the local estate we call "beireut"!

Why aren't people planting walnut trees? The number of silver birch I have seen planted on golf courses, gardens, streets etc but why not lovely walnuts?!

No wonder there isn't any to mill in this country any more!
