Nasty. The blue stain on oak is always a pain.

Had a lot of problems this week with chainsaw milling. Two broken drive sprockets, two snapped chains and the top it off the last elm log had so much metal in it that I dumped it. You are not alone!

I dumped it in the end to much in it.the pebbles and sand in the hollow at about 9 ft up caused the mill to rise up off the first cut ,

You can just see it in the picture.

I came home with a very worn chain and a broken sprocket :-(

John which chain make do you prefer for milling ?

Regarding chains, I just don't know anymore. They all seem to break. I'm on Oregon chains at the moment and I've had no end of popped rivets and broken tie straps.

I bought a walnut massive walnut for £200 a while ago, paid too much for it i know, knew it was full of nails, kids had used it as a climbing tree, they was all over the place!

Must have sharpened my saw 15 times in 5 hours, but working round them i secured a LOT of timber that was destined for the bomfire, sometimes you jus have to use your loaf, they are now bowl blanks, and three of them paid me back
