Used all sorts of things from ground anchors to tree trunks with fiddle blocks for tensioning. By far the best and quickest way if available is a tracked chipper though. I wouldn't use any other vehicle unless as a very last resort..one slip of the clutch when tensioning could prove fatal.

Another vote for fiddle block to get the tension, If you need to get too elaborate with mechanical anchors into the ground at may be better to just lower the stuff.

 

I find a groundie hammered into the ground can be the most flexible method.

Probably frowned upon now, but a deadman anchor in a manhole used to be a commonly used anchorage for winching in the old days.

 

 

Yeah the cops get a bit pissy if you keep pinching dead men from the morgue😁

And you need to be quick and place em before rigormortis sets in🙈
