What are you intending to charge though? Charging new-fangled Li-Ion batts for example is hugely inefficient using an inverter. I think last time I tried I could charge two 18v 3.0Ah makita's on my truck. The third would drain the battery too low to be able to start it afterwards. I then fitted an aux battery with a voltage-sensitive split charge relay so I could safely use the inverter without getting stranded.

 

I used a Victron inverter, not cheap but very very good. Much higher efficiency than "el cheapo's" and will work forever.
