which winch?

Hi all I have a fair amount of oak log to fell, Done a bit just skidding behind the tractor but as we seem to be getting more of this sort of work I am thinking of getting a 3 point linkage winch. But am not sure what size or make to go for? Any advice would be great!

Krpan is my winch of choice a lot of winch for your money.

 

Get an electro hydraulic version rather than a manual one as in the long run it will be worth it. Get a radio remote with it too.

 

What size timber are you felling and what size tractor are you putting it on.

I will have a look at them, the biggest we have got are around 70dbh and 20 to 30 foot of log. It will be going on my valtra 6400

I think that all the slovenian / eastern european winches are much the same, Kirpan, Tajfun and Uniforest, I have a uniforest and its good.

 

Make sure you pay the extra for radio remote. its well worth it, in fact scratch that, its essential.

 

Tonnage wise I'd go minimum 6.5 but bigger if you can afford it.
