Is it any good? Have the choice of picking a largish rowen log up off a job I did last week and wondering if it will be worth the effort ?

yes yes Matt! The off cuts have interesting grain and colour and the shot of the whole log looks like it runs all the way down.

If I come across any timber I haven't used before and the signs are good (interesting crosscut grain/burrs lumps etc.) I always give it a go, though it tends to be on small section stuff (less than 16"). I had some turkey oak and the internet search suggested burn it, but I got some nice figured boards (which air-dried really fast).

The rowan I have used before was hard like a fruitwood and worth the effort.

No mate it's on a school site so I have to clear it with the relative permissions... Hopefully as I want to get it on the mill it has not been cleared as we felled a number of trees on site and the wood had to be left in manageable lengths. .. This was no though !!

Never went back as it seems to have rained continually in any spare time I've had and getting it involves driving across a lawn on a steep slope... Just waiting for it to dry out s bit and hopefully it is still there.
