The trainer should have some kit to use.

When i did mine , our winch had its plate missing so unfit for purpose.

Also sure you can 'hire' kit from the training provider.

A good course to do, i enjoyed our. I also found using a saw with a 13" bar helped as it makes you doubling up your cuts

Its strange, because i'm sure i have read on the website of the trainer that i use, that the instructor provides the winch etc, however when i emailed one of the people in the office enquiring about the course and equipment needed, they emailed me a list back with the winch on it, and stating they expect me to have all equipment. As im not looking to do the course until about october/november i'm sure i will get to the bottom of it. Thanks again to all those saying i can borrow their kit. Much appreciated.

If i did decide to buy my own, which combination of winch/strops would be the best to go for ?

Strops id go for double the winch minimum . I.e 1.6t (pull) winch /3.2 stropes round it up to 4t

Just incase if u double back on yourself with a block.

I think ive got that right lol. Not really woken up yet today.

All the list you got i think is just a generic list. And the trainer will bring his own incase yours breaks etc

Borrow mine either

Can supply wedges as well

Just shows how many folk have these winches but never really use them.

Though having said that I would not be without mine

Was one of the best things I brought was my winch only a baby one but still got us out of a muddle

Dan most tirfor style winches although indicate 1600kg (lift) are rated to 2400kg (pull) so a minimum of 3000kg strops required no need to go any bigger provided you can basket hitch the 3000kg strop (ie 6000kg) when doing a re- direct or return. However as you say 4000kg would be fine :thumbup1:
