Told you so. DO it, you'll like it.

(Ah yeahh)

Hi Wyk,

It's purely out of interest really......the saw is working great and loosened up nicely, I can't see me needing anything else for some time so was just sat there earlier pondering, (in between thinking about what to cook for tea), the specifics if I went down that route.

We had Macaroni Cheese by the way........

We had burrito's with mojitos. Coz that's how I roll.

I think if you do a google for 5100 muff mod, the 'other site' has some interesting threads and info.

Hey Dangerous Dunc! Glad you're enjoying the saw I advised you to buy!

Would have sucked if you hated it, right?

Wyk makes me laugh with his comments, he's a natural comedian.

Did you keep the little Stihl in the end? Tried using it after a stint with the Makita to compare the difference yet?

Cheers .

Hi TW,

I thought about keeping the MS but it wasn't going to get much use really so ended up selling it through gum tree for £145, honestly, I probably could of sold it 5 times over. The guy was very happy with it....taking everything into consideration he saved nearly £100 over what he would of paid from his nearest Stihl outlet. So much for selling it for £70, :001_smile:

I like the Makita as it just blasts through everything in comparison, no bogging down, sounds good, spools up well etc. although a tad heavy? not in a position to comment on weight for 50cc saws per se' as only ever used this one but it does have some heft to it. I am sure in time I would of found some use for the MS but by and large it would of sat in a dark cupboard feeling unloved, lonely and miserable... it's new owner has reported back on the Cherry trees that he needed the saw for and from the sounds of it they appear very happy together :001_wub:

Just a thought , now that you have the faster , stronger, Makita ./ Would you pay £145 for that little Stihl ? :001_smile:

No........:001_smile:

one thing I am having a bit of trouble with you guys might be able to help with is that the Makita seems to flood easily. The last two starts from cold/using choke have flooded the engine, so I have to clear the cylinder, clean and dry plug, reinsert, choke off/half throttle off and she fires up sweet as a nut, if a little smokey until the unburnt fuel has burnt off.

Any ideas?.....the fuel has been mixed a little on the rich side but only by a very small margin, would it be advisable to start without choke and half throttle disengaged?

Bloody phone ! Try without your ear muffs on . you may find it fires on the second pull . Don't expect it to run on choke , just cough . Once its don't that choke in and pull till it runs . Usually 2 more pulls or so .
